A lot of other responses have already pointed out some great general strategies. But there is one more thing that's really important: Figure out how your users/customers can become advocates. ‼️ We've all become used to online ads to the point that many of us just tune them out. When a sales person tells me about a product I don't believe half of what they tell me. It's a recommendation from a friend that makes me really pay attention.

@vincentropy Agreed! Find "100 users who love you instead of 1,000 of them kind of like you"! Is it more like product-led-growth strategy?
Vlad Zivkovic
@vincentropy That's an important one!

@dot_brand Love the "100 users who love you instead of 1,000 of them kind of like you", I had forgotten that phrase. I think this one is true even outside of a product-led-growth strategy. Even if you just do consulting, with a traditional sales dept, getting intros through happy past customers is super powerful.

Digging this concept. Starting product marketing from scratch can be a daunting task. Honestly, you've gotta know your audience and deliver what they want. Never forget to test and iterate, can't stress that enough.

1) Define your target market, create the message for them, and identify the channels you need to reach them 2) Define your lead gen system and how you will convert leads to customers 3) Launch, evaluate, adjust accordingly

Understand your product and who needs it. Check out the competition and be different. One should make a clear marketing plan with goals and how to reach people. Build an easy-to-use website is the key! Share helpful stuff on blogs, social media, and emails for more user engagement. Show off happy customers and their stories to attract new ones. Launch with a bang and track results.

@dane_jadiel As an entrepreneur, I even have to know my target audience more than they know about themselves; and, that's the hard part!

If I began my product marketing journey from scratch, I'll start from understanding my target audience. So, I'll delve deep into market research, engage in customer interviews, and carefully analyze my competitors. This allows creating detailed buyer personas and helping tailor marketing efforts to resonate with the right people. Here is another good article with a detailed road map. I like the advice of first defining exactly what you want to achieve when starting a marketing activity. https://jetsoftpro.com/blog/mark...

These are all great answers. I love how most of the focus is on the audience, because that’s the foundation of every good marketing strategy. Try to solve that audience’s problem by helping them become the hero. Don’t make your product the hero, make your product the tool that helps them become the hero in their story. Communicate this message in the media channels that have their attention.
Vlad Zivkovic
@mpaine Yes! I totally agree.

To start product marketing from scratch, define your target audience, create a unique value proposition, build a brand identity, and then use social media, content marketing and PR to reach your audience.
