What makes you trust an app enough to give it full data access?

by•

I've been double-checking app permissions lately and it's surprising how many basic utilities demand access to personal contacts or background tracking.

When a product explains why it needs certain info and lets you opt out without breaking core features, it builds way more trust. Sharing sensitive data by default just to try a new tool creates unnecessary friction during onboarding.

How do you decide if a software product actually needs your personal details, and what data do you strictly refuse to share?

I usually check whether the app really needs that access and if it explains how my data will be used I avoid giving contacts or background access unless it’s necessary for the main features Would you trust an app more if it let you choose permissions one by one

I'm very careful about where I share my personal data, and I'm often surprised by how much access some apps request for seemingly simple tasks.

For me, transparency is key. Tell me what data you need, why you need it, how it's being used, and who has access to it. And don't make me give you more than what's necessary.

As a co-founder of Querri, where businesses trust us with their data, I see this from both sides. We take that responsibility incredibly seriously. We've invested heavily in security and compliance, but I also believe trust goes beyond certifications. It's about being transparent, respecting people's data, and giving them control over it.

Just because an app can access certain information doesn't mean it should.
