When do you buy the domain?

by
When you have a new idea do you buy the domain straight away or wait a while? I tend to get the domain first hence why I have about 10 unused domains right now 😬

Buying a domain is a great temptation that is difficult to resist. The domain is the first tangible thing which people see and feel this is it and they will make a great Product. Most of the time this does not happen. My approach 1. Ensure the problem your product is trying to solve does exist. Speak to at least 30 to 50 users.  2. Ensure the solution to the problem which you have designed should have some edge over existing products. Speak to users while finding a solution as well.  3. Start building the product 4. Once you feel confident about the whole thing and feel that the Landing page needs to be made is the correct time to buy a domain.  5. Buying a domain name at a later stage also helps to generate keywords that resonate with your customer base (this would come out from user research as part of problem/solution stage)

Too soon. I just like buying domains despite the fact that there's a 1% of me actually using it.

Sometimes before, sometimes after :) If they're cheap its kind of a fun hobby to collect them and dream. If I'm serious, I try and make sure I have the domain and its running some kind of landing page ASAP

Buy it straight away. Dopamine of buying a domain = 1000000 X of a single like

If you can afford it, get domains early. I've definitely missed getting the domain I wanted because someone else had a similar idea and snagged it.

I'm probably the worst example of domain buying, but I have a rule. I buy the domain once I know I am really keen on the idea / space and at that time consider this a serious business to get into. I buy this way usually within 10 days of the idea popping into my head. In these 10 days I typically try and get basic validations in place for the idea (market and potential, competitors etc.); but then I give myself 1 year to either do that business or junk the domain!

As soon as I get the Idea. Most of the times, 24 hours later the idea seems not so good and the domain just get abandoned. I am trying to force myself to buying the domain 2 days after I have had the idea, but .. PD: This question remember me of that Tweet: https://twitter.com/iamdevloper/...

When you are 100% that you will be taking the project to the finish. And I would suggest to also buy the rest of popular domain extensions. This way nobody can fake to be you :) happened to me just recently
