Thanks @ali_kozlu! What kind of group(s) are you thinking of using Geneva with?

I had the opportunity to chat with Geneva's founder, Justin, about their journey building the company for my substack Consumer Startups a few months ago (https://consumerstartups.substac...) and it's been amazing witnessing its growth. Congrats!
Thanks for all your support @rphgrc! You were one of the true Geneva OGs!

Super excited about this! I just hope it's easy to share and get connected with some of the non-tech users out there in the community! I have wanted something like this for a while, in hopes to connect our community/town. This will help us foster transparency, support and keep us more informed as to what is going on in our small rural community! I've signed up, so I'll let you know how it goes!
Thanks @scott_dixon1 - that's exactly the kind of thing we had in mind when we created Geneva! Out of total curiosity, what state do you live in? Let me know how it goes and/or and ideas you have on how we can make it better! my email is sam at geneva.com!
thanks @callmeelles! Let us know if you have any feedback or ideas on what you'd hope to see us build in next 😊

I recommend this app to anyone passionate about building and growing their community. You can create custom rooms and interact with the community through image, text, audio, video and live broadcast. A much needed solution for creators and brands!
Hey @pavankat - Great question! Because Discord was initially built for gamers and Geneva purpose-built for social groups, there are a few core differences about the platforms (in addition to small details and overall feel of course)...
- How people can interact: On Discord, you can chat in chat channels, talk in audio or video channels, or do audio-only broadcasts on 'stages'. Geneva offers all of that (including threaded replies in chat rooms), plus asynchronous forum-style 'post' channels (more like a FB Group or Reddit) and video 'broadcast' channels allowing up to 9 people to live stream to an audience of thousands
- Real people: Discord encourages pseudonyms/screen names while Geneva encourages people to use their real identities to create more personal connections and minimize trolling
- Events: Geneva has a full built-in Events stack/calendar that encourages and facilitates IRL interactions in addition to virtual ones
Hope that's helpful!

@pavankat@samliebeskind These are exactly the features Discord is missing to make it work for our community. Nice job

I've been in the market for a private hosted community but found Discord's branding and ToV not right for our community, Facebook Groups antiquated, Mighty Networks lacking live chat on their apps, Circle doesn't have chat at all and our website host Kajabi totally missing the community angle.
From understanding our community needs, Geneva has prioritised the right ones - except encryption!
That said I'm excited to try it out - I have hopes that there will be more customisation so people can add our own style/branding, amongst other small details about onboarding customers.
