Just got access to this and it feels really good imo. The combining of similar emails seems to be working really well and the app on iOS feels like it's native. I guess that Material Design works better than I anticipated. I am however a bit bummed out that they force you to use Chrome on the desktop, as Safari is my main browser. Having said that, I can definitely see this replacing Mailbox as my default mail client in the not too distant future! And no, I didn't get any invites :(

Wonder how badly Google Apps users get shafted.

Yes! My roommate worked on this project. It came out awesome. Might actually get me to switch off of gmail which is nuts. nnOnly thing it needs for me to make a full switch is signatures. And rapportive.

It is a totally different way of interacting with email, but I think they have done a nice job of translating confusing Gmail concepts into understandable Inbox concepts. The pinning idea is interesting, I've configured my work Gmail with Priority Inbox in a similar way keeping emails I need to handle immediately and follow up on at the top. "Pinning" in Inbox is a bit more flexible than categorizing things with labels alone, as it can be applied to any "task" (email) or "reminder" protecting it from "Sweeps" (which is Archiving, but an easy to understand concept). When used in combination with the "Snooze" feature, you can keep your visible Pinned tasks relevant to your current work and have have "Snoozed" tasks appear later when they are needed. As a side note, I was able to clear out my entire personal inbox pretty quickly and pin the relevant emails as tasks with reminders. My work inbox is a totally different story and I would be interested to see the difference. Going to keep exploring... we posted a summary: http://blog.synergyse.com/2014/1...

For anyone looking for invites, I received one today -- sadly it doesn't work with Google Apps accounts yet. My invite seems to have been generated by the email I sent to the inbox@google.com address to request the invite. If I find a way to share invites, I'll definitely do that but in the meantime if you haven't emailed yet that seems to work eventually. I got one a few days later. Now I have to create a Gmail account to try it but that won't be so useful because all my real mail is in Google Apps :(

I pretty much like all things Google, but Inbox just isn't for me. I much prefer good old fashioned Gmail on my iPhone. The way Inbox sorts my emails doesn't always make sense to me, and I suppose I'd rather sort it myself. There are definitely better email apps out there. I know because I've tried a bunch of them.

Pros:

Google product

Cons:

I'm not a fan of my email being categorized for me

Love how they didn't eradicate the current Gmail, but are simply offering an additional product. Excited for an invite!
