Why I'm using my infra-monitoring tool to stay safe in the backcountry ποΈ
Since launching GrooveKit, I've been obsessed with "silent failures" - the jobs that don't run and the APIs that go dark without anyone noticing. But as a solo founder and backpacker, I realized I was more worried about my own "uptime" when I was off-grid. If something goes wrong on the trail, a text message to a friend is a single point of failure.
So, I built Adventure Heartbeats.
It's now a fully functional feature within the GrooveKit suite. It's a backcountry safety net that uses the same high-reliability logic I use for server monitoring:
Satellite Integration: It's built to ingest automated webhooks from Garmin inReach, Zoleo, or Spot (no cell signal required).
Automated Escalation: If you don't check in by your configured time, it doesn't wait - it automatically notifies your emergency contacts with your last known GPS coordinates and route plan.
The Goal: Peace of mind for solo adventurers and the people waiting for them at home.
I'd love to hear from you:
The "Umbrella" Brand: As a solo founder, am I leaning too hard into the "utilities for everything" vibe, or does this cross-pollination between dev-tools and outdoor-tech feel natural?
The Logic: For the hardware enthusiasts - any other satellite communicators or GPS devices I should prioritize for webhook integration?
