Thanks @rrhoover for sharing. Saw this last week and one of my clients ended up being the first global brand to use on social. Thanks for making me look good ;) With that being said, from a user standpoint, I'd love to be able to edit frame by frame and it would be cool to see them build out a newsfeed separate from Instagram to generate inspiration.

This is funny timing. I tried to upload a video to Instagram, and it wouldn't let me because it was under 3 seconds.

The richer the content shared on FB/IG the more time people will spend in their apps. Seems like a smart strategy to regularly roll out fun/simple apps for generating rich content. Also keeps the competition at bay.

The only thing I don't like is the name. Will create SEO competition and probably some market confusion for the popular Gmail extension by the same name.

@parttimesnob When you are as big as Instagram/Facebook names don't really matter as people will find the app through press or through cross app promos. In a few days they will get to the top 20 in the Appstore organically. No SEO necessary :)

@shapob Think @parttimesnob was saying they could choose a different name with no confusion from other existing brand. :) Not sure if Instagram team didn't care or meant to compete.

@elaineluyi @parttimesnob It's not the name of the company it's a byproduct...I don't think it was that hard of a discussion the other product you are talking about doesn't have a lot of traction among everyday consumers....this will and it doesn't really matter as long as users associate your productizing with a useful utility it can be the same name diffrent association. Think Paper app for sketching and Paper app for Facebook...Pencil by Apple ( a stylus ) and Pencil by Three ( a stylus ) is a strategic move this...not so much.

Seems simple enough. I really love the Giphy app for more fun gifs on the fly, but the simplicity of this will probably keep me coming back to it instead.
