Instagram is a simple way to capture and share the world’s moments. Follow your friends and family to see what they’re up to, and discover accounts from all over the world
Very interesting choice of aesthetics. It reminds me a lot of the transition Apple made from iOS 6 to iOS 7, abandoning some skeuomorphic elements and relying more on structure.
I'm a big fan of design by structure, and it seems like they've done a good job at relying more on structure, removing metaphors, and at the same time keep a clean, appealing aesthetic. But in the end, it doesn't matter what I think, and it doesn't matter what story is behind it. The users will be the ones to judge.
With respect to the icon, it's simple, and a 5-year old could draw it after looking at it for 10 seconds. That's awesome. I'm interested in seeing how the gradient in the icon will play with the aesthetics of the UI. Congratulations @ianspalter and team.

Anyone recreated the gradient yet? The brand assets IG offers are just a couple jpgs and videos =/
I saw the new Logo and thought, wow the app is gone be looking f.ing amazing, while the App Store app was updating it. But when I opened the app, I was about to throw up. All white and black??? My opinion is that all the designers should quit there jobs! I am disappointed by a lot.
I love it. It was long overdue. It is incredibly well done. I do not understand people's negative reviews and comments. Why be afraid of change, especially when it's for the better? Forget the icon for a second--the black and white native template UI is beautiful, just how Apple intended: content first.

Didn't like the new icon at first. But it may grow on me. I love the UI design though! Feels good.

What, with the combination of the new app design, Opera's friction free iOS VPN and a recent free upgrade from China Mobile to 4G, I might just start using Instagram more. I'd still like a native iPad version though so I can process and share photos from my camera.

The ui is brilliant, love the new look. Not a huge fan of the icon but I'm sure I'll adjust.
I do like the light design because it makes the content pop but I feel like Instagram should have kept the color for the title and bar button items in the navigation bar. Also, I think the tab bar selected item needs a bit of color. But overall, it's very clean!

This news is flooding over all social network. However, I still prefer its classic Instagram icon. Just imagine a professional photographer who is into B&W photography, what's gonna be his/her first reaction by looking into this purple-orange based icon? For me, it doesn't look professional and going way towards "Teenagers."
