Gboard by Google - Google Search, GIFs, emojis & more—right from your keyboard

Gboard a new keyboard from Google for your iPhone. It has all the things you would expect from a great keyboard — GIFs, emojis, and Glide Typing — plus Google Search built in.

I absolutely love the idea of getting links quickly within a chat (in fact discussed this need a few weeks before gboard was announced... I know, right?). The only issue: all 3rd party keyboards that I have tried are slower / less responsive than the native iOS keyboard, so can't stick.

I've been using GBoard quite a lot and I must say that it's pretty buggy. It stops working many times a day, the emoji keyboard forgets your most used ones and in almost every app, it takes a while to show. I think the idea of inline search is amazing and the UX is really good, especially because it removes the need of an additional keyboard for Emoji (which is a pain when you write in more than one language), but it still needs a lot of improvement.

Is this the place where Now on Tap will live on iOS? Or do you think there's another, better place for Now on Tap?

i don t understand why Google did not embed the keyboard in the same Google search app which is already very popular

Looks great and can't wait to try it out in the UK when it shows up.

Am I the only one that doesn't like it?
Chris Smith
@vandusen no. You aren't. I think 3rd party keyboards will eventually go the route of QR codes. Overhyped. Regular people don't need or want it.

@chris_smth Agreed!

@bricon5 Love this, very comprehensive. One bug is that when doing a places search - such as "coffee shop" or "Restaurants near me", after getting the result cards, clicking the directions button (arrow sign) on a card takes me to Google.com in the browser with original query. I would instead expect it to have the value of the particular card, so I get can get directions. Instead I am just repeating the search in a bigger window and it means each card behaves the same and is somewhat useless. I'd love it to open right in Google Maps, either through detection or Universal Links, but I'd settle for the exact result to be preloaded on Google.com Also I'd love the option to have predictive text after gliding, instead of auto correct suggestions, without the need to hit space. This is how SwiftKey works, which is by far my favorite keyboard on both iOS and Android. It allows the fastest possible typing. Thanks again!

Still not available in the UK?
