I can't get the plugin to work :( Deleted browser settings (cache, cookies, etc.) restarted Chrome (killing processes) and reinstalled the plugin. Keep getting a Loading twirling circle and eventually "there was a problem with this tab please reload" or something along those lines. I'd make an Openvid about it but... ;)

@dereckbreuning my email is vinay@opentest.co in case you didn't want to publicly put yours out there!
Dereck Breuning
@vhmth ha! Cool, thanks.
Dereck Breuning
@vhmth yeah Ill email you about this

I installed the extension, clicked the icon in the browser, declined the audio prompt and it seems that broke the entire extension. For your developers, the error I'm getting is: `TypeError: Cannot read property 'isDemo' of null`, and it's coming from this line of code:
Vinay Hiremath
@danielsamuels hey man sorry you're running into that! https://www.opentest.co/share/18... chrome://settings/contentExceptions#media-stream-mic Extension ID: liecbddmkiiihnedobmlmillhodjkdmb

@vhmth Hey! No problem at all. Removing the exception and re-approving it got the extension working, so thanks for that. As to your question in the video, it was my intention to block audio. As a developer I make little videos of bugs or cool UI interactions to share problems or progress on projects in a visual and easy-to-understand way. Here's an example of that:
One of the things that I would absolutely love is a way to show when keys are being pressed. In that video above you can see the carousel move left and right, but without my mouse moving. This was because I was pressing the left / right arrows on my keyboard. It would be great to have a visual representation of that. There's a piece of Mac software somewhere that does it, I just can't remember the name of it right now. It's worth me saying that I'm actually really excited by this extension, and I can't wait to be able to use it in an audio-free way. I make multiple videos a day like the one I showed above and my current workflow is quite annoying - opening QuickTime Player, making the screen recording, then either converting to a .gif or uploading to YouTube (and having to wait for the processing to complete). To have this entire workflow available to me at the press of an extension icon makes me so happy, and I can't wait to make use of it. There's one final thing I would like to ask, and I'll preface it by saying that I haven't actually tested this, but: do you support OpenGraph tags? If I send a YouTube link to a Slack channel, the video becomes embedded by virtue of the OG tags on the page. It would be fantastic if Opentest also supported these tags and therefore enabled videos to be embedded directly into Slack. Congrats on the launch, thanks for the quick response, and I look forward to future updates!

@danielsamuels wow thank you for the awesomely-detailed request! https://www.opentest.co/share/7d...

@vhmth No problem! 👌
Sarah Aberman
Look great! Real easy to use too; already started recording a screencast! Now how do I share, or download the screencast?
Shahed Khan
@sajimi Once you end the recording, a new tab opens up with your shareable URL. You can send that to whomever you'd like and also download the video straight from that URL as well :-)
Sarah Aberman
@_shahedk awesome! thanks for the answer! Actually, saw the download button on my second try but then it disappeared when the video loaded though, hidden behind the "Create extension" green area. Closed my download bar, which fixed the display issue, just fyi. Should have screencasted for you guys ^^
Vinay Hiremath
@sajimi @_shahedk no worries Sarah! Thank you for reporting that! Added to the bug list.
Andrew Richard
Watch me do some sefie... lol this will be great for EdTech and definitely adding it to chrome
Vinay Hiremath
@basictechy cool! What kinda edtech stuff do you see yourself using it for?
Andrew Richard
@vhmth maybe create a tut for some students
Vinay Hiremath
@basictechy boom that's awesome! Let me know how you get along with that.
Germán Castaño
This is a really cool tool for people who wants to give or receive feedback about products, websites etc. It would be nice to add a highlight or pointing tool to be used in the process, tutorials could use this feature a lot. Very good work.
Joe Thomas
@germancastano Hey hey German! We have it on our public Feature request list at the link below. If you have any other thoughts on how to improve the product it would be incredible if you could add them there :) https://www.opentest.co/requests
Germán Castaño
@joethomas_x Cool, sure I'll do it.
komocode
Can you record audio output? I have a co-worker that wants to record my video lecture I give over skype.
Vinay Hiremath
@komocode you can definitely record anything that comes through the microphone if it is audible. We will likely slate full desktop recording as our next feature since it has been requested far above all other features at this point. In the mean time, since the audio is coming from the computer, you can still record from that. If you are also able to use something in-browser (like Google Hangouts), you should be able to record the video session as well. How often do you do these lectures and how do you currently record them (if at all)?
komocode
@vhmth I personally don't record, but my co-worker does. I usually have a meeting with her twice a week to sync up with android development progress. Quite often I need to explain complex material so I do a screenshare with these calls. Best way for her to take notes is to record what I'm presenting. We've noticed that the Macbook sometimes mutes the speakers when the mic picks up any sort of room noise. We had the hardest time to set up Soundflower to record the stereo mix instead of recording only the Mic.
Vinay Hiremath
@komocode I see! If you would like, send me her email or tell her to reach out to me (vinay@opentest.co), and I will personally ping her when we've built the full desktop recording functionality. That's crazy that the speakers mute when mic noise is picked up. I've noted it as something to figure out a workaround if I encounter it.
Dale Brose
Definitely going to use and share this! Thanks
Vinay Hiremath
@dalebthinking no problem! Glad you find it helpful!
Jason Lindstrom
@_shahedk very cool tool - I can see lots of applications.... Simple product feedback, remote user testing. Can't wait to play with it more.
Vinay Hiremath
@jason_lindstrom @_shahedk awesome Jason! Let us know what applications you come up with!
Jason Lindstrom
@vhmth @_shahedk for sure... I just demoed Openvid to our product manager (who's collecting feedback from a large team)... he love the idea for bug tracking... can't wait to play with it some more.
Vinay Hiremath
@jason_lindstrom @_shahedk sweet! Don't hesitate to have him reach out to any of the team members. We're here to help!
David Weisburd
This is awesome - great tool!
Vinay Hiremath
@dweisburd thanks David! We still need to catch up sometime and meet IRL. :-)
Grow
Love it. Is there a way to remove the gray circle if we are not using the front facing camera?
Vinay Hiremath
@gogrow unfortunately not as of right now. It has been requested though and will be implemented. I'll add a point to this feature on our list (that's how we're prioritizing the features). I'm happy you like the tool!
Joshua Dance
@vhmth @gogrow Thanks! Once you can remove the gray circle I want to introduce this to our whole team.
Vinay Hiremath
@joshdance @gogrow will do Josh. If you created an account with us, we will email you when the ability to do that is implemented. :-)
Joshua Dance
@vhmth @gogrow awesome. I created an account with both personal and work emails. Thanks!
