I wonder if any of the early access features will be for writers who don't intend to charge for their content. They've been exploring with new analytics emails for us, and I'm sure there's plenty of things they can do to help me become a better writer.
I'm just getting a "Notify me" button on the Membership page; is this because I'm in Canada?

@mijustin I'm in Canada, and have an option to sign up. The subscription is currently in limited release; hopefully they will have a full rollout very soon.

The platform will be ad-free for all users, paid or not, correct?
"We invite you to join us as a paid member and to help support an ad-free platform that delivers the right type of content." - from the post

@henry_springer My understanding is that Medium does not intend to display "traditional" ads on the platform. However, Medium has shown sponsored content on the platform before (I am not sure if they still do). P.S. I love Notion on my Android phone :)
I signed up to be notified when I can get access to the limited release. I guess they're still working out bugs like the one where the membership page says I've been a member since Jan 1970. I agree that it's not obvious what $5 a month buys. I'd strongly consider it if I can migrate my blog to the Medium platform.
This is a bit unclear for me. How will they select who will become a "get paid" writer and who wont

@csaba_kissi Writers can apply to for the Medium Partnership program here (https://medium.com/m/partner-pro...). Medium asks for writing samples when an author applies, and the program is currently focusing on writers who cover US politics, science, technology, personal development, business, and startups.

well, for 3 dollars i can remove ads on wordpress.com and do lots more in the way of content exposure and customizations - and for 8 bucks i can monetize - so 5 bucks for what exactly? patronage?
@passingnotes@chrismessina wordpress doesn't have the social-media component that medium has ...Hearts,Followers,Trending articles. This is the medium allure for me.

@chrismessina free to read! but i can pay nominal fees to generate and monetize content, access themes and tools, etc - love medium, but love lots of other sites - at a certain point you have to just tell the subscription economy to screw itself and stop trying so hard - not everything merits a recurring fee, just not realistic to build the future of web services this way

@eonpilot@chrismessina uh, free plugins supported by kazillions of devs that do all that ornamental labor?
