Medium Membership - $5/month for an ad-free experience with premium content

I'm already a member of specific publications I love (like femsplain!). Is that membership feature being retired?

Curious to see how it will end, for the moment I will not pay, I used to use a plugin on WordPress to repost on Medium.

I'm not sure about this... Same big question everyone else has. What's the $5 get you?

I like the idea but its really unclear as to who gets what in this model. Is medium creating a paywall for other publications that are using its service as a distribution platform? Then why not just pay the publication? I'm all for supporting writers but transparency is key here.

Look like a fast move. I have not even noticed any ads in medium.

I like this. I don't mind a premium membership to sustain the content producers. That's the name of the game if you're not going to include advertising. Hopefully this will help remove some of the vapid click bait articles too. Personally I don't think m something like this would work for Twitter. Paid for business accounts might, but asking folks to pay for access to a social network seems counter intuitive.

A lot of questions unanswered, would be interesting to see how this moves forward.
