Stoked to try this. Been looking for substitute for coffee that actually wakes me up. Will price point be same as MR?
Sisun Lee
@thomas_cobbs1 not finalized yet but it will likely be lower

I really think my colleagues in tech need to educate themselves more thoroughly about their own minds before jumping into these "body hacking" solutions. The Mucuna pruriens bean, used for centuries for a host of real (Parkinsons) and perceived ailments, contains a bunch of L-dopa. It is the effect of flooding the dopamine receptors in your brain with this "natural" source of the brain chemical that supposedly brings about the dramatic benefits to focus, mood, etc. The source of the l-dopa (from a plant as opposed to a synthetic process in a lab) is probably a lot less important than how your brain uses it. The problem is not a lack of dopamine, but the way that the receptors for dopamine process it. As explained for a mass audience in the book and movie Awakenings, without rehabilitation to the receptors the effects are temporary. Depending on how the plant is processes (water vs methanol extraction, etc) it might have very temporary or longer term effects, judging from supplements customer feedback, no effect at all. Don't believe me: there are a lot of good articles on this like these: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc...

@bill_maggs Hi Bill, thank you for the input and consumer education is very important. You are absolutely right that Mucuna contains L-DOPA which is a precursor to dopamine. However, itself is not a neurotransmitter before its conversion into Dopamine. I don't think it is fair to say L-DOPA will "flooding the dopamine receptors in your brain". An example in point is that Tyrosine, which is an amino acid commonly found in food such as meat, fruit and nuts, is also a precursor of Dopamine. Daily intake of Tyrosine from food sources can be as high as several grams which is much higher than the L-DOPA content in our product. Can you say eating these foods will also flooding the dopamine receptors in your brain? Of course not. One of the most important biology functions in our body is called Homeostasis. Here is the wikipedia page for others who might not be familiar with the concept. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ho... The homeostasis function is designed to maintain the physical and chemical condition of the body so we don't easily get "flooded" by exogenous factors such as L-DOPA or Tyrosine. Unless we are talking about extreme cases such as illegal drugs, or super large doses, our brain can self-regulate the production of dopamine, and supplement with Mucuna would support this natural production process by supplying starting material. And I would like to stress again that Liquid Focus is not designed to treat any diseases, or alter any physiological function, therefore, the receptor issue (not sure what exactly you meant) is not what we are trying to address with Liquid Focus but the deficiency of certain neurotransmitters caused by modern day stressors. The article you cited in your message reported a clinical study where they found Mucuna Pruriens extract might be beneficial for Parkinson's disease. I am not sure how is this paper suppose to support your point, but I want to stress again, Liquid Focus is not designed to treat any diseases. It is a dietary supplement product.

@fuchen17828942 Thanks for the reply. It is precisely because Liquid focus is being pushed as a dietary supplement and not under a doctor's care that I think you need to be careful to understand its effects. The article was just to point out that there is ongoing research about the complexities of mucuna usage. And as I pointed out, taking large amounts of natural or synthesized L-dopa as a precursor to dopamine has been shown to have diminishing effects on dopamine pathways over time, and still not really understood effects on serotonin. People have been taking velvet bean for centuries without dying for everything under the sun, but that is not the same as taking a ton of it or the effects being medically understood.

Going to need to buy this for the office. Also, beautiful branding.

Definitely looking forward to something that's not coffee (which throws off my sleep cycle & leaves me needing more!). Are there any side effects drinking LF on an empty stomach?
Fu Chen
@gracechanng Hi Grace, its OK to drink Liquid Focus on an empty stomach. But we recommend to take with food not only be easier on the stomach but Liquid Focus actually help convert food into brain energy.

How can we get samples? Excuse me if this has been mentioned before.
Sisun Lee
@gary_leonard we closed off our beta testing now. about a thousand samples have been given out, and you can find feedback being posted here as well as our fb group at facebook.com/groups/morelabs/ over the next two weeks. They will likely come in towards the end of this week as they've gone out this week.

I don't understand why Product Hunters are falling all over this product, which has yet to be released and is making unjustified claims about energy that thousands of other products also claim. Throwing in references to someone who worked at the FDA (one of the most corrupt and bought/paid for orgs in the government) and touting it as a possible replacement to a pharmaceutical like Adderall should be throwing up all kinds of red flags. Let's all take a breath, people...
