Own A Word - Make it yours alone. Keep its meaning forever.

by
Own A Word is the first platform for symbolic ownership of language. Choose a single word that defines you or someone you love and make it one of one forever. You receive a digital certificate, a place on our Word Owners Wall (WOW), and the option to gift your word with a story. An outlet for identity, branding, and heartfelt moments. This is not a domain, NFT, or legal claim. It is emotional ownership that is personal, human, and scarce. A way to keep meaning safe and honor what matters.

Hi Product Hunt, I’m Mohak - the person behind Own A Word. I built this because words have always stayed with me longer than moments. They hold people, memories, promises. I wanted a simple way to keep a word, gift a word, or honor someone with one that will never be owned again. Independent and self-funded, built nights and weekends with care. This is a symbolic platform. One word, one owner. You get a digital certificate and a place on our Word Owners Wall (WOW). No domains, no NFTs, no legal claims. Just meaning made personal again. If this feels like something you’d connect with, tell me the first word you’d claim and why. I’d love to meet builders, storytellers, and collaborators who want to help shape this into something bigger. Thanks for being here. I’ll be around all day.

@mohak_jain I pick Breathe. A simple reminder that helped me through a lot!
Mohak Jain

@aastha_jain9 That is a very strong pick Aastha. Breathe is a reminder to reflect back and think before taking impulsive decisions. Nice!

@mohak_jain This is honestly such a beautiful and intelligent idea.

It feels personal, thoughtful, and kind of poetic in its own way.

My chosen word is Begin. It felt right… a quiet push to start again.
Mohak Jain
@meron_woruk : that’s a great pick! Lets begin claiming the word Begin 🥰😇

Feels good to finally share this with everyone. We spent so much time getting the meaning right, not just the design. Hope people feel what we felt while building it.

Mohak Jain

@hana_tarekegn Glad you said this. Building Own A Word was never just about design for us, it was about protecting meaning. Feels good to finally let people experience it.

Hana Tarekegn

@mohak_jain That's perfectly stated. The mission was always to capture what's untranslatable. We felt every story deeply, and that intention is woven into the entire project. Now, we just hope our Wordbearers feel that same level of care and recognition.

Thank you for building this crucial home with us.

Casting and Talents

This idea made me rethink my own relationship with words. Choosing just one was surprisingly emotional.

Mohak Jain

@casting_and_talents : Thank you for sharing. It surprised us too how personal it feels when you settle on a single word. Glad it connected with you.

Casting and Talents

@mohak_jain Yeah, how did you even come up with the idea? It is incredible.

Mohak Jain

@casting_and_talents : Thank you, I have always kept words close to me. I realized that everyone keeps a word close to their heart. Own A word is the platform that makes people celebrate their word ownership

Asma Atique

I can picture this becoming a tradition for anniversaries and birthdays. Lovely idea.

Mohak Jain

@asma_atique : That means a lot. We actually hoped people would use it exactly that way - as a small tradition that stays meaningful over time. Also for Brand identity and heartfelt moments

My fiancée recently bought me a word on Own a word... “Steadfast.”

It instantly became a reminder of how I try to move through life: grounded, committed, and steady no matter what shifts around me.

Seeing Own a word on Product Hunt feels special; it turns language into something personal and meaningful. “Steadfast” became a small anchor for me, and I love that a platform can make a word feel like a gift and a symbol.

Congrats to the team, honestly beautiful idea. ❤️

Mohak Jain
@samuel_gezahegn Oh yes, that was not too long ago. I remember the word request coming in. I am glad you like the idea. Let’s give words the home they deserve!
Duaa Khan

Feels like something people will look back on years later and still value. That's rare.

Mohak Jain

@duaa_khan : That is exactly right. This is a forever gift, a keepsake that people can keep, share and celebrate forever.

Akhtar Ayub
Feels like a modern version of writing a letter to someone. Very meaningful.
Mohak Jain

@akhtar_ayub Very well said Akhtar. I am glad you find this meaningful :)

It brings back the emotional value of giving something personal. I like that a lot.
Mohak Jain

@jake_klaasen that is correct! You are not just gifting a word, you are gifting a meaning wrapped with emotions. Our early recipients loved the digital gift kit and they were more than happy to see their name on the Word Owners Wall.

Saad Raja
