Returning to work full time after my maternity leave, this meal planning app was just what I needed. I've always enjoyed meal planning, prepping, and cooking- however it was taking away time I no longer had to spare. Fast forward a year later, I am still actively using the app every week to plan delicious, healthy, vegan meals for my family. There are many great features on the app and website- the digital pantry keeps track of ingredients you have, the prepopulated shopping lists, the rating of each recipe allowing the site to learn your tastes and present recipes you will love- however one of my favorite features is that you can say how many people will be eating. For example, I have dinner with my husband every night, but often lunch is just me. Plate joy has a feature where I can put how many people will be eating each meal- it will then adjust the recipes and shopping lists accordingly. I can't recommend this app highly enough!
@devyn_giumarra this is really awesome to hear, Devyn, and especially nice to hear that all of the little features we toil over are helpful to you. Lots of love goes into building it and it's nice that the feelings are mutual. :)

At the suggestion of my nutritionist I downloaded the app. It's been a fixture in our kitchen for over a year now. We had been eating out most nights but PlateJoy has added a lot of creativity and simplicity to eating home. While I have always been fit, addressing my diet and eating home more frequently has helped me to maintain weight down 15lbs from my prior normal. And, the shopping list/ability to download to Instacart has made the shopping and prep mindless.
@damon_krytzer This is awesome, Damon - really appreciate the comment and so excited to hear you're down 15 lbs - that's not easy to do, and pretty amazing.

How apt is the designed meal plans for different geographies, nationalities and culture?
@taha_tweets Hi Mohammed! We have customers all over the world but truthfully it's been designed for north american users (according to what's available at the grocery store, etc.) Still - some of our happiest customers are overseas. Best to check out a trial and see if it works for you.

@taha_tweets I'm in Mexico and I've been using it (and loving it) for a year with very few issues. I do wish I had the option to get ingredient quantities in the metric system, but on the other hand now I'm a pro at quickly converting from imperial units into metric in my head when I'm at the supermarket. There's very few ingredients that I haven't been able to find here (notably spaghetti squash) but it's easy to substitute for another ingredient that will do the trick and still taste great. Like @cbognet said, give it a try and see if it works for you.
Looks like a lovely app but a) shame there's that dreaded sign-in wall when first open the app b) also I can't register on my device via the app itself c) I read the privacy policy but it doesn't mention the lifestyle info you guys keep/need on registration. Any plans to revamp the sign-in/sign-up process? Can see you guys losing lots of peeps with it as it is 😳
@david_west A trial period on the app is a great idea. Unfortunately, with respect to b, until we integrate with Apple's in-app payment system (and give Apple 30% of revenue), Apple required removal of every mechanism for subscribing (and even language and terms of service that mentioned subscribing) prior to approving the app for the app store. So for now, the app is for customers who sign up for the trial through the web app.
@bluejade Makes sense. One thing I will say is people shouldn't think that Apple will take 30% of the revenue as such - I encourage friends considering app development to think about the extra revenue that they generate by having Apple support their app in their ecosystem. They may also actively promote the apps on occasion - to help offset that perceived 'cost'. Not to mention that if you have recurring subscriptions, Apple will take just 15% if you retain them after a year. Hoping it's going to be a quick one to improve/implement for you though once the trial is over with
@bluejade One other thing - I signed up for the trial but have not got my account details / password. When I tap 'Forgot Password' and enter my email, it shows me my previous preferences automatically, from any device whatsoever. Can you guys fix that quickly? That's just not how you should authenticate users. Anyone can grab that personal info at present... 😟
@david_west Is there particular information on the preferences page that you are concerned about? At that step of the process, the user hasn't authenticated. There isn't really sensitive information (e.g. a phone number, a last name) until someone signs up (either on the sign up page or by going through the checkout process), at which point, the account requires a password to get into any part of the account. If someone doesn't sign-up, we delete the information after a while. Given this combination of low-sensitivity information and limited period, we opted for helping visitors avoid losing preferences between visits (since visitors often arrive via one device and complete sign-up on another, and visitors used to get confused by resetting a password when they hadn't entered one to begin with).
@bluejade Appreciate what you're saying but I would really expect after entering my preferences to be given a password to help safeguard and store those. There's plenty of information in there that is sensitive or commercially useful to anyone querying your servers. Weight, name, email, diet. Not sure anyone would want that information available in the public domain.
It also isn't clear to me that I must go through and add meals before completing registration (a prompt may help this). I personally don't see the benefit of storing those preferences without a password. I'd much rather they don't get linked under an email until that setup is complete.
Perhaps I'm more of a "tin foil hat" guy than most but during a time that privacy is really really hot on people's agenda, the way you manage information during this process concerns me and will likely concern others.
That said, I see lots of positive feedback and lots of happy users here... so congrats on building a well-loved product!

I started using PlateJoy because I wanted to become vegetarian and just wasn't sure how to make that full change with my meals and lance nutrition . Their app is so easy to use and the meals are delicious and easy to make. They create shopping list and provide how to videos for some of the cooking list. Someone contacted me right after I signed up to check in and ask if I had any questions and to give me suggestions. This app, the people, and the food are amazing. They have a lot of different meal options. If you aren't vegetarian you should still use it because their other recipes are great too. This has really helped me and I've even lost weight.
@dolphinsek Shannon, that's so wonderful to hear and congrats on the weight loss. We're so glad the app has been easy to use and so grateful for your words of encouragement!

PlateJoy has helped me become a much healthier eater and given me so much time back by meal planning for me. I can put in my preferences, and then week after week have great recipes given to me with no time consuming meal planning or recipe hunting on my end. It even provides a shopping list, so it is very easy to follow along in the grocery store.
It easily pays for itself by helping me plan ahead to eat so I don't wind up ordering takeout expensive takeout.
Seriously love this product.
@kate_vogel We seriously love you back, Kate! Thank you so much for the kind words and we're extra excited to help you avoid unhealthy takeout, whoo!!

I love this app! I made a commitment to myself to cook more, but I don't have a lot of time, I have special dietary restrictions, I'm busy, and I live alone. Spending hours searching through recipes for meal planning is not my thing. Plateajoy is way more convenient and takes all the work out of healthy cooking. For just a couple dollars a week I get a menu of healthy food to cook and a shopping list. It coordinates recipes so I don't have tons of random leftover ingredients left over and I am not wasting money or food anymore. The app keeps track of staple items I have available as well. The menu items are diverse and customizable for dietary restrictions and foods you try to avoid. I've specified I only want fast recipes with seasonal ingredients. I can repeat my favorite recipes or try new ones. Also you can tell them where you like to shop so they won't send you recipes with obscure ingredients if you never shop at Whole Foods. And their app can send calorie counts and nutritional info straight to my wearable app (Jawbone in my case) so I don't have to manually enter ingredients or estimate portions. As a busy grad student trying to live a healthy lifestyle on the cheap, this app has been a huge time and effort saver!!! Also the app developers are responsive, and have added requested features which is really awesome.
@avd2o Thank you so much for this!!! Really appreciate the positive feedback and extra happy you are taking advantage of the JawBone integration as well. Yay! <3
Platejoy is one of my favorite apps. I don't push many things, but I recommend this constantly. It's the perfect thing for fitting healthy eating into a busy lifestyle without eating the same thing every day. The redesign makes it even easier to use. Just renewed my membership for the year and can't recommend it enough!
@ashmchang This made our day! Thank you, Ashley!!! Love that you're loving the re-design, we love you back!

I've been using the Platejoy app at least once a week for the past 6 months and I love it! The instacart integration is what first attracted me to the app, but the variety of menus and level of customization are what keep me coming back every week. Platejoy organizes menus around common items and calculates the amount of product you need to reduce waste, and also keeps track of items in my pantry so I never find myself getting ready to prepare a meal and missing a key ingredient. While I love the convenience of instacart ordering, it's just as easy to use the Platejoy shopping list if you prefer to do the shopping.
One of my favorite features of Platejoy is that the app lets you choose how much time you want to spend preparing meals and how often you like to eat leftovers. I researched a few other meal planning services prior to finding Platejoy and one of the drawbacks I found with every service was the extensive meal prep time. I have found the time estimates for Platejoy to be very accurate - if a recipe says 25 minutes to prep it really only takes 25 minutes. As a working mom, I need quick and easy meal prep and Platejoy delivers.
@eli_yott This is awesome feedback, thank you so much. So glad you are enjoying the recipes and your experience - and inspired at the healthy meals you're making for your kids :D!
