Do popups help or hurt on Black Friday?
Black Friday is on November 27 this year, and I keep going back and forth on one question: when every visitor arrives already looking for a deal, what do popups and other on-site elements really do?
Here is how I split it:
- Before the sale: collecting emails for early access ("get the deal before it goes public")
- During the sale: a countdown to the end of the offer, an announcement bar, a free-shipping threshold, an upsell at add-to-cart
- Last chance: exit intent, a Cyber Monday extension
My doubt is that a plain "10% off for your email" stops working when the whole store is already discounted, and that the deadline becomes the hook instead of the offer.
So I'm curious about your side:
1. Which element earns its place on Black Friday in your store or product?
2. What do you switch off because shoppers are already in a hurry?
3. Do you rewrite the copy for the sale, or reuse the everyday popup?
Share what worked and what backfired.
