Introducing Randomized Leaderboard Day on Product Hunt!

by

If you’re launching today, the leaderboard is about to get a lot more interesting.

We are running a Randomized Day to give products launching more of an opportunity to get seen!

The Mechanics

To level the playing field, we are cycling the homepage layout throughout the day:

The Loop: This cycle repeats every 30 minutes, all day long.

  • 25 Minutes: The leaderboard will be completely randomized.

  • 5 Minutes: The leaderboard will return to its standard ranked order.

Hidden Points

To keep the focus on the products rather than the "score," all points will be hidden from public view to encourage the community to vote based on merit, not current rank.

The "Double" Boost

Here is the kicker: Every vote cast during a randomized period counts for double. If you are pushing your community to support you, tell them to strike while the points are hidden to maximize their impact.

The Strategy

Your titles and taglines are now your most critical assets. Since every featured launch has a statistical chance to sit at the very top of the page during randomization, you need to ensure your "hook" is sharp enough to catch the attention of the community and visitors!

This is really nice feature.

I'm new to PH, I launched a product and I got people DMing me to pay them to buy upvotes (50-100 upvotes for $100-$1000), now they will have more advantage.

I think there is a better way to make this work by having a weighted average upvote on their credentials/contributions.

In this case, somebody who has has higher KP points, their upvote carries a lot more weight or points than the ones who are just new and lower in the ranking. That also depends on the products that they have launched, threads or interactions that they were part of and have got upvotes to those contributions and so on.

We are getting to a point where this vibe coding products are launched every day, and people are experimenting and launching their products on Product Hunt essentially to get to a better product from reviews and feedbacks. This way we can find the better products, encourage them, and get them more inclined towards shipping or finding a product-market fit for their product.

Would love to get your thoughts on this.

@humblefool60 Launches are ranked by points, not votes. Votes from users with a track record of quality contributions on Product Hunt count for more points.

Launched Mokkit today, this is a good thing for us indie founders who rely on support more than funding.

Cool initiative!

@ugo_builds What other initiatives would you like to see?

Ugo

@andrew_g_stewart Maybe more transparency about why some comments and honest reviews don't get published despite a success messsage, that would be nice

That's good for engagement! Love it!

This is not only good for makers, I enjoy it even like a spectator. I like guessing so this surprised me positively! :D

This is honestly great for PH. The old leaderboard had a rich-get-richer problem where top 3 at hour 4 meant top 3 at hour 24. Now every product gets a fair shot at eyeballs. More discovery, better products win.

Exciting to see the Randomized Leaderboard Day in action! 👀

Really interesting to see how every product gets more visibility — curious what new twists we might encounter when we launch next month.

Subhasis Sahoo

This is super exciting, finally gives every product an equal chance to be discovered.

I only see my own comment but I know others have commented. Is this intentional as well? First launch ever, interesting day didn't expect this.

@gabe Hold on, was this just a one-day thing? Feels like the team is testing the waters.

I genuinely thought it was a permanent update going forward. Honestly hope it is, it would be a much fairer and fun wait to spot some great products usually ending up being bottom end of the list, (this could easily also replace the initial 4-hour window change from a few years back).

Hiding point is a smart move. A lot of people definitely vote based on momentum once they see who is already ahead.
