Product Hunt Chat - Talk with your fellow makers directly inside Product Hunt 😺💬

by

Product Hunt's in-site messenger lets you chat with your fellow makers and friends across the community. While simple, Chat is quite robust. You can start a:

- Private 1-on-1 chat

- Private group chat

- Public group chat

Give it a shot and let us know what you think. 🤗

Congrats on the launch guys! Looking forward using it more and building more relationships out of it. Within the first day of trying the beta I was already having some very insightful conversations. :) I really like the option in settings that allows the more popular users to not get spammed.

I wish the new features also came to the mobile app, like this chat, the maker goals, product reviews, etc.

Congrats on the launch, PH team. Chat will definitely help us to make more personalised connections.👏 However, I hope, you guys already have some algorithm to track down the spammers & take actions accordingly. Because unfortunately, the first message I got in my PH inbox is someone trying to sell Fiverr gigs on “I Will Promote you product on PH & give your 150 Product Hunt UV”!!

@afshana_diya sorry to heart that! please report the chat and we will take care of it

Woohooo.. Great. Once I have had a thought about to build the producthunt messenger as a chrome extension if PH allows APIs support, Ha ha.

This is a very basic tool, though I am happy it wasn't forced or rushed. I feel there are still some issues which, once sorted out, cold improve usability and adoption from the users. Perhaps the most pressing problem to tackle next would be spam and abuse elimination, which is already creeping in to /ask/.

Pros:

Obviously useful to PH users, a great way to get better-involved within the community.

Cons:

Technically seems to work great but needs some more testing with diverse users/cases. Few UI quirks like disappearing chat window.

Are there plans for a PH Chat API, and thereafter the PH Chat App Directory?
Ryan Hoover
@tomhadfield no API plans at the moment but we may explore that. What do you mean by App Directory? Do you mean allowing others to build apps that integrate with Chat? Curious what ideas you have.
Ravi Srinivasan
Awesome. Reduced friction for makers to connect. 👏🏼
