Is there any documentation about the integration and how "active customers" are defined? I'm really really interested in moving away from the notion that an active customer is one that needs to log in to get value from an app โ€” I think/I hope/I wish that more apps will provide value without a user ever needing to log in and push buttons. I'm wondering if ProfitWell Engagement supports other usage metrics?

@ideasasylum Hey Jamie! Really great point here - totally hear you and relate to this. One of our premium products Retain - is a anti-usage passive product, that seldom requires the user to log into the app, so we've been thinking about this a lot. While V1 of Engagement Data uses log ins as a proxy we're working on a number of other ways to log activity โ€”including event tracking and custom events via an API. How would you define active users for your product?

First off, love the new feature @profitwell team. On @ideasasylum's note, I'm also pretty curious about how active customers are defined and what usage metrics the platform supports. Is it any metric that you've integrated with your billing system (assuming there's an integration with ProfitWell)?

@neel_desai Good point about Retain โ€” my canonical example of this type of anti-usage app is https://deadmanssnitch.com/ and they send an email every day just reminding me that they're doing their job and everything is fine. I think it also applies to ecommerce apps like Podia: I want to see creators logging in to initially build a course or membership but the real value comes when they make sales ๐Ÿ’ฐ โ€” and the more sales they can make without doing work (like, logging into the app), the better for them

Early Beta Tester here! I like the predictive measures it shares, how many are active and how many people are active and how that looks compared to your MRR. Great addition to ProfitWell.. especially because it's FREE!

Pros:

Easy to implement, great to atribute engagement to MRR and to see how active users are on your platform.

Cons:

Since it's free, there's literally nothing I can be upset about.. HA!

I've been impressed with ProfitWell since I have started using them. Even if you don't want to use their product, they put out really great content.

Pros:

Easy to manage MRR/ARR, accurate customer count, easy to upgrade/ downgrade customers based on changes in their plan, great reporting!

Cons:

A customer can't pay $0 so the customer count is off b/w SFDC & PW for customers that we have a partnership with in exchange for software.

Is the safest way to integrate this to only turn it on for US customers due to GDPR? I'm guessing we would need to add you guys as a 3rd party data processor to use for EU customers. Do you guys have an integration that supports geo-fencing?

@bryantchou Really great question here (per usual :)). We're fully GDPR compliant and have thousands of users based in the EU. Happy to send our DPA your way (or sign yours after review), but we've done the leg work to make sure we're good on this front (officially EU/Swiss privacy shield approved and compliant). We also built a few features inside the product to accommodate all the fun GDPR requests you may be getting. Going a step further, one other piece a lot of folks don't always realize is that we also do custom DPAs/Ts&Cs with a lot of our higher growth/enterprise companies just to make sure everything is picture perfect.
