I'm about to launch a very simple app, but hear me out first...
I’m Archie, the builder of Protin. A very simple protein tracker app that I will launch tomorrow on PH.
I want to be very honest about why I built another protein tracker — and why it’s not free.
I’m a sports enthusiast and I’m currently training for my first triathlon. If you take sports and training seriously, you know how important protein is, to stay healthy, recover properly, and maintain muscle mass. It’s not optional, it’s fundamental.
I tried many nutrition and fitness apps, but they all felt the same:
too many features,
accounts required,
paywalls everywhere, and
data collection I never really understood or asked for.
It made me realize something: we live in a world that is over-featured, over-stimulated, and over-complicated. We keep adding more, instead of focusing on less.
So I built Protin. Protin does one thing only: it tracks your protein intake and tells you if you reached your goal. That’s it.
No account.
No subscriptions.
No data collection.
And yes! It’s not free. It’s a one-time payment. Because nothing is truly free.
If something is free, you usually pay with your data or attention. For me, a one-time payment is the minimum way to respect the work behind the app. We spend $5 on a coffee or $30 on food delivery without thinking twice — this felt fair.
Is this a niche app? Absolutely. Will everyone love it? Probably not. But in a world of 8 billion people, I believe there are at least a few others who value simplicity over everything.
If that sounds like you, give Protin a try. And upward the product on PH, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Please reach out with feedback. Any feature request that stays within the spirit of simplicity is welcome.
On a mission to simplify things.
Archie
