šŸ¦¾ Ever thought AI might start controlling us? =D

Be honest, even just for a secondā€¦

Do you ever think that AI might eventually take over the world?

Weā€™re building agents, giving them more autonomy, connecting them to everything, teaching them to make decisionsā€¦

And then one day they might look at us and say:

ā€œOkay, humans. Weā€™ve decided whatā€™s best for you ! ā€

Just a little bit of Matrix, maybe...

As someone from filmmaking, I canā€™t really control the scenarios that appear in my head while building an agentic environment =D

I know, I know - probably too much sci-fi.

But sometimes I look at what weā€™re building and think:

Are we creating tools for ourselvesā€¦ or slowly creating something that will regulate us one day?

Be honest. Has this thought ever crossed your mind in the shower? =D

Have we already started building the systems that could eventually influence our everyday decisions?

Ā ig these systems are already influencing our decisions. that's a fact...

Ā Yes, these systems already exist for many professional jobs. They are called Expert Systems, a sub-division of AI. I studied this in college, Decision Support Systems.

Maybe the first step isnt AI controlling us but us getting too comfortable letting it decide for us.

Ā Do you see that tendency already today?

Ā I will say "comfortable" to influence our decisions. Today people are shopping with AI. Ask Chat GPT which product is better and whola! your choice decision is influenced.

Ā  Ā I think humans always collect information before making a decision.

The problem is that now most people blindly rely on what AI tells.

The fact that agents can act on their own makes this question kinda wild.

Hahaha ha! This is interesting and funny. I don't think it's possible for AI to control humans. Even with the next level of inventions of intelligent robotics, still don't think technology can control humans. May be I am misunderstanding the context of control but in my opinion AI is powered by a knowledge base and so if you say smarter than humans yes, that already the case now. Most people don't think anymore, they rely on AI for simple things as a comment in discussion forums. Control humans will not happen just because you're smarter. Can you imagine AI president making decisions for the country? That would be interesting, isn't it?

I think if we all use AI in our everyday tasks, why can't presidents?
Maybe they have their own chats with GPT discussing continents =))

Ā yes, I do believe the intelligent analysts who briefs the President probably use AI in their intelligence gathering and analysis but the use of AI does not necessarily mean control. I actually think it's good for humanity since the error or misleading information is limited. AI can make mistakes but with a human in the of decision the error rate is minimized and this goes to support the idea that AI will not control humans.

The shower thoughts are getting way too advanced now šŸ˜‚

Honestly, autonomy is the part that makes this feel less sci-fi.

Ā But what do you really think? IF someone decided to, could they take control over humans through their data and gadgets?

Not gonna lie, this sounds like a movie plot that's slowly becoming real. šŸ˜‚

As a designer working on AI tooling ( we generate mobile apps from prompts), yes, the thought crosses my mind - but usually in a less cinematic way.

What I actually worry about is quieter: autonomy creeping in one "auto-approve" checkbox at a time, because friction is bad UX. The takeover won't look like Matrix. It'll look like really convenient defaults.

So my job now is weirdly the opposite of classic design, adding the right friction back in, so humans stay the decision-makers. Great question though, this one's shower-thought certified šŸ˜„
