How I met my team: Thanks to mandatory military service.

by

In Korea, military service is something every guy has to go through.

As most other nations do, we've got Army (sorry not the BTS thing), Navy and Air Force.

Their service duration differ - 21 months in the Army, 23 in the Navy, and 24 in the Air Force.

Most people pick the Army just to finish faster and get back to normal life.

Me? I chose the Air Force.

Why? Well, here’s my theory:

  • Bases are usually near cities, and the work schedule is often just daytime.

  • A lot of people who join the Air Force don’t want to waste those two years. They’re trying to make something out of it.

  • Which also means: higher chance of meeting motivated, interesting people.

There was only one way to verify that theory, signing up.

And long story short, it worked out.

I met my co-founder there.

Then a few more friends joined in, and now we’re a team of five.

The funny part?

None of us are actually working in the field we majored in:

  • An AI engineer with a degree in Hospitality Management

  • A marketer who studied English Education

  • A designer (who also codes and builds AI)

  • A backend developer with a background in Biotechnology

  • And an AI project manager who majored in History and Media

So how did we all land here?

12 bootcamps made it happen. (Not the military kind—thankfully.)

Those bootcamps, and all the experiences we shared, eventually led us to what we’re building hiaryAI!

In the next thread, I will share :

  • the Story of 11 Pivots: Personal Schedule Manager to the Study Note Platform.
