I’m running a paid beta instead of freemium — looking for honest feedback
Hey everyone 👋
I’m building Animus Invoice, an invoicing SaaS for freelancers and solo founders.
I made a decision that’s a bit unpopular:
I skipped the free beta entirely and started with a paid beta.
The reason was simple:
I wanted feedback from people who actually invoice regularly — not users who sign up just because it’s free.
So far, the product is intentionally small and opinionated:
– create clean invoices fast
– no accounting-heavy workflows
– clarity over features
I’m not here to push signups.
I’m genuinely curious about your thoughts:
• Would a paid beta make you more or less likely to try a tool?
• Does this positioning feel reasonable in such a crowded space?
• What would you expect in return if you paid early?
