I spent my 27th birthday coding a fix for my messy group chats. Am I crazy?

Yesterday was my 27th birthday. Instead of the usual dinner, I spent the morning in VIM (btw) shipping the waitlist for Squad In Sync. 🎂💻

The context: I was trying to plan my own birthday and NYE with my friends. Within 48 hours, the WhatsApp thread was 400+ messages deep. The flight info was buried, the restaurant link was lost, and half the group was in "decision paralysis" because they couldn't see the full plan.

The realization: We have Jira for our 9-to-5s, but our 5-to-9s are managed in a high-entropy stream of memes and "maybe" RSVPs. Group chats are for talking, but they are terrible for planning.

I’m building Squad In Sync as a dedicated logistics layer for social life. The goal is to decouple the "logistics" from the "chatter" so you can actually sync your squad without the burnout.

I decided to make Squad Generation free for our early adopters because I want to see if this solves the "Planner Burnout" for others as much as it did for me.

I’d love to hear from the PH community:

  1. What’s your biggest "group chat nightmare" story?

  2. Do you think we’ve reached "Peak Chat Fatigue"?

  3. What’s one feature that would make you actually switch from a messy Google Sheet to a dedicated tool?

Can't wait to hear your thoughts! 🚀

Happy birthday in arrears, Alex! I can so relate to the group message chaos. Planning for anything has become a chore.
One feature i would add as a ux designer are:

  • Let members RSVP or vote on plans using emojis, GIFs, or mood sliders. This would instantly tells the organizer who’s in, out, or unsure without scrolling 400+ messages.

I would also add personalized reminders like this: "Hey Alex, your table at La Bella Vita is burning if you don’t RSVP 🔥.” This would keep everyone reminded of the plan and prompt actions. This will be a very cool product!

@aramide_adesanya Thanks for the birthday wishes! As a UX designer, you hit the nail on the head. The 'Mood Slider' idea is genius planning should feel as expressive as the chat itself, not like a boring corporate task.

I love that reminder copy, too. 'Your table is burning' is exactly the kind of playful urgency I want to bake into the notifications. It makes the logistics feel like part of the fun rather than a nagging chore.

I’ve actually just pushed an MVP with no login required to keep the friction at zero. I’d love a designer’s eye on the flow if you have a spare 60 seconds to click around! 🎨
