I've been using Setapp (beta) for a few months. I admit I was a bit apprehensive at first about the experience, but now I can say it's all been rock solid. I've tried — and continue to use — a few apps I thought I would never need. Without the pressure of an expiring trial, I like the idea of knowing when I reach for an app, even if it's months later, it is officially being supported by my monthly payment. I really hope this works out for both the developers utilizing Setapp as a marketplace and for MacPaw.

As a Beta user, I've enjoyed the Setapp for a little while now. I'm a bit too much of a minimalist for this to apply specifically to me, but folks who use more software will love this. I think it's a great discovery mechanism too—I hadn't heard of most of the apps on offer here.

Devs, please jump on board. The more apps there are, the more people are likely to use this. And it doesn't change much for you does it? Other than that, I think you should actually build a storefront to showcase the apps, and maybe even add a Free Apps section? I know it might make no sense to you but I feel like if I use this as a hub for paid apps, I might as well wanna use it for good free apps (such as Franz, Atom, Spectacle…)

and here's my review from the beta program, I thought it was a pretty cool idea - https://www.gregariousmammal.com...

Setapp user since day one ... Discovered multiple useful apps. One thing is a bit annoying ... To hear from the launch but the startup bug "this app needs Setapp to function" still exists. I think Setapp needs to start before Setapp apps on Mac startup. And one app lost all data after an update. I hope the first bug will be fixed very soon and the last is fixed. I didn't try the app with data loss anymore because this could happen again.

@greasan_de Carsten, please check what version of Setapp you have? It should be 1.0. If it is not, please install the latest one from here: https://dl.devmate.com/com.setap...
Carsten Jaksch
@kosovan Yeah, I did that but I can't start Setapp with the new version. If I try to quit Setapp using activity monitor, it restarts automatically with old version. Even a restart of my Mac starts the old version 0.7.4.

@greasan_de Please contact us at support@setapp.com and we will send you the instructions for full reinstall. Sorry for the inconvenience.

@kosovan @setapp Thanks, that helped. Great apps and great support!

Been using Setapp since the beta a month or so ago. Love the product. Apps just work, install/uninstall is intuitive, and I finally get to use Clean My Mac. Excited to see just how big this will get!

I have been involved in the beta for some time. I like the concept, but I agree with Jeremy Cai and the fact that 9.99 is a lot for the amount I will get out of it. If I could make a yearly payment of about $70 (about 5.99/month), I might be interested in continuing. Also, I can't find (or missed) whether I will retain the app if I leave Setapp.

@tncriswell Tony, thank you for your feedback. As far as for your question, if you cancel you subscription it will be discontinued, however, you’ll still be able to use the applications until the next billing period. After that, you won't be able to open apps from the Setapp folder. If you decide to go back to Setapp, you can reactivate your account.

@pandu4io So, if I decide to stop setapp, I am going to have to pay full price to get the apps I want to keep. In essence, I'm just renting the app. Not such a great deal. Glad I found out before the beta runs out!

This is a much needed change in the world of apps for Mac. I have been using it for some time now as one of the beta users. It seems to be delivering on the promise. The current collection of apps available looks promising, although it is not diverse enough to satisfy the needs of all kinds of users but enough to make a good impression about what is to come. Looking forward for more main stream apps to come aboard. Support from the team is amazing. Also a better way of suggesting new apps would be much appreciated.

@storyerr I have (3) Macs-home, work, + laptop. Will 1 subscription work for all 3? Will data input to apps sync?
Volodymyr
@tjwise_ Hi, at the moment Setapp subscription works for two Macs, for the third one you'll need one more account. The great news is that we're working on the multi-device plan, stay tuned and have a great day ;)

This is an impressive idea. Given some of the apps in here, I wish I had this kind of tool months ago!
