Hello, Product Hunt! 👋
I built Snailbox to scratch my own itch. I was juggling multiple client projects and trying to carve out time for working on side projects and my inbox was a huge distraction. So easy to check my email and end up down the rabbit hole.
Tim Ferriss talked about batching his email at 11am and 4pm way back in the 4-Hour Workweek, so this isn't a new idea. Snailbox can help you carve out more time for deep work on any schedule you want.
So now, I get all of my email at 4pm every day. I can do my Inbox Zero thing once a day and focus on development work without worrying about distractions. The feeling of waking up to an empty inbox is pretty great once you try it.
Now that's pretty extreme and won't work for everyone, but I think a lot of people could benefit from batching their email at set times instead of dealing with messages one by one as they come in. Even if your Inbox Zero skills are top notch or you turn off your email completely, it can still be distracting at times.
Snailbox is still in early access mode and there are more features on the way, but the basic idea works well and I'd love to have you to try it out and give me your feedback!
Let me know if you have any questions!
I've been using Snailbox for a few months and it has TOTALLY changed my relationship with my inbox for the better.
Don't let the simplicity of this idea fool you, it's really a game changer. If you're someone who is compulsive about checking email and keeping a tidy inbox this is hands down the best way to make your inbox a calm, productive place.
I'd say that this app is like meditation: the more you *think* you don't need it, the more you actually need it.
@gregmolnar Thanks, Greg! I would love to work on an IMAP integration eventually, but right now the app works entirely through the Gmail API. Hoping to connect with Gmail users who find their inbox to be a distraction from their "real work".
I have been using Snail Box for about a month now. Didn't even make it through the free trial before I knew it was more than worth the investment.
I have found that it really has been a game-changer for enabling deeper web design work. It allows me to set aside specific times when I want to get emails. Letting me control my email, instead of letting it control me.
I found it very distracting to need to refer to emails in my inbox for tasks, while new emails were coming in.
Give it a shot. It's a slick utility that feels more than worth the investment.
