I've been using customer portal for a week or so now after stumbling upon it when trying to design my billing pages. It works great! Very easy API implementation, and totally customizable. The only thing that I would say could be improved is the ability to limit when someone can downgrade. For instance, if you allow them a certain amount of x with one subscription, and x+2 for another, if they are using more than x, it would be helpful to not allow them to downgrade since they are using too much. Good job guys!
