I'm a German resident. Is it possible to open an account with Swell?
@jmaskell Hi James, Unfortunately, for now, we are only available to investors who reside or are citizens of the U.S. But don't worry! We hope to make ourselves available internationally soon. We want to bring impact investing to as many as possible, including those overseas, so stay tuned :-)

@pam_velazquez How can people find out when you're available in other countries?

Awesome to see this.
Our work at the SEAL Awards - environmental advocacy org that recognizes the most sustainable companies: https://sealawards.com/ - is premised on the massive impact corporations can have.
Sustainable investing your own retirement account can be hugely impactful - here is an estimate that it is 27 TIMES more effective than other carbon reducing activities - https://twitter.com/SasjaBeslik/...
@abadesi Thanks! We will rebalance the portfolio periodically in an effort to optimize performance. We have a dedicated team of impact analysts who spend all of their time identifying and evaluating companies for our portfolios. You can learn more about their selection process here: https://www.swellinvesting.com/i...
@isiahhill The main differentiator in those companies mentioned and Swell is that at Swell we only invest high growth companies that offer innovative solutions to some of the world’s biggest challenges—like renewable energy, clean water, and healthcare. We have 6 thematic portfolios you can invest in as well as the Impact 400 - a portfolio of the 400 most impactful companies on the market.
Our portfolios are modeled after the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals which outline 17 goals that we can reach in the next 15 years that will end poverty, and protect the planet and its people.
These goals open up $12 trillion of market opportunities as governments and private industries alike move towards achieving them which means that impact investing is only going to become a larger part of the market. If you’d like to take a look for yourself at impact investment trends overtime, GIIN puts out this great report: https://thegiin.org/research/pub...
Swell allows you to open an IRA (Roth, Traditional, or SEP) as well as a flexible brokerage account.
Hope that helps!
@itsevanwalden Hi Evan! We are aware that some of these companies might make you double-take in terms of being impactful companies. However, Apple is included because while they’ve come under fire in the past for their labor practices, we recognize that they have made immense strides in the development of health monitoring technology and has one of the world’s most comprehensive recycling programs. As of 2017, they draw 100% of their power from renewables, reducing their carbon footprint by nearly 585,000 metric tons (whoa!). This means they fall in line with the UN SDGs for climate action, responsible consumption/production and good health and well-being.
Costco is also included as an impact company for several reasons. Costco has been hailed for paying their employees well above their grocery store partners. The warehouse model that they employ also makes for less packaging - think about it, when you buy in bulk you buy bigger quantities which likely have less packaging and a smaller carbon footprint. They’ve also solved their need for organic foods by simply going out and purchasing farmland and actually converting it to organic, therefore increasing the world’s total organic food supply. All of this also falls in line with UN SDGs around climate action, responsible consumption/production and good health and well-being.
I hope that helps! If you’d like to know more about why we picked these companies, take a look at our approach page: https://www.swellinvesting.com/i...
Thanks!
