How about using an alias name until you want to show your real name. A lot of people want to chat and show who they are but remain anonymous, dont ask me why but i guess there's a reason!

It's product hunt chat today, lol! Great fun! I think this would be a great tool on PH. You should offer a branded version to chat randomly with anyone on site xyz.com. Could be very interesting in e-com, like if you talk to strangers in a store about a product.
