Am I making a mistake building Superhuman for devs?

by

I have been cranking out apps for the past few years and loving it.  Then one morning a week or 2 ago I got a little ambitious and decided to build a desktop email client because outlook was so-so and superhuman was ridiculously expensive.

Is this a big mistake?   Am I wasting my time ?

So far I have Microsoft and Google working and I can do the normal email interaction read, reply, archive etc.   I also got local AI working and training on your emails (all local).

Let me know your thoughts.

PS: my target audience is developers not the general public

I don’t think this is a mistake at all — I think it’s only a mistake if you try to compete on features instead of focus.

From my experience building tools, users don’t want a cheaper Superhuman — they want one pain removed. Outlook being “so-so” is actually the opportunity here.

If you’re building for devs, clarity and speed matter more than polish. Even a rough tool that removes one daily frustration can win loyalty fast.

I’ve seen more success shipping something narrow and opinionated than trying to match big products feature-for-feature. Keep going, but stay focused on one job-to-be-done.
