Product Hunt visitors, are you looking at the entire product list?
Yesterday, @pamela_arienti mentioned that her Product Hunt launch ended up somewhere in the middle, and one of the main lessons for her is that the connections gained on the platform are much more important than the placement.
I agree with this statement. Although...
Now I thought I'd ask:
When you come to the Product Hunt landing page with products, do you only look at the "featured" section, or do you also browse the other products after clicking "See all of today's products"?
I am attaching a poll so you can vote, and if possible, feel free to specify in comments why you approach it like that.

I’ve noticed the same, and most users tend to engage with products that are featured or at the top of the list. Maybe it’s because navigating through categories isn’t as intuitive as it could be? Could be a bit of a UI/UX limitation.

@nosheen_kanwal what would be a better solution in your opinion?

@nosheen_kanwal This is actually a good idea. The one thing I am afraid of is too many notifications.

It's even worse on mobile, where only the top 5 products appear in the home feed. It makes getting featured so important for gaining visibility... a lot of people feel like their "launch didn't matter" if they aren't featured, and I think there's some validity in that.

@chrismessina Honestly, I do not use the mobile version at all. 😅 I am a statistical anomaly cause I am using a desktop 95% of my time. But agree, I am not motivated to take one more step to see more launches.

@chrismessina agree!
@chrismessina Absolutely agree, Chris!
A lot of founders lately think it’s either featured or total failure. As if the launch means nothing unless you get featured.
And that mindset becomes really demotivating for any young product that doesn’t get featured and wants to try again.
On an average day, 100–400 products launch and it’s impossible to check them all.
I typically browse the Featured list first, and only scroll through the non-featured products if I have extra time. At that point, the only thing that really helps me decide whether to explore a product is its tagline.

@rohanrecommends And when do you check the list? In the first four hours, when things are not decided, or after 4 hours, when there is a list of those products, somehow determined? (Because I think that psychologically it also affects our choice to "upvote.")
@busmark_w_nika I jump in during the first 4 hours and make it a game. I upvote the products I think will (or deserve to) hit top 5. Then I check back at the end of launch day to see if my guesses were right. Super fun! :D How about you, Nika? :)

@rohanrecommends The same here :D but sometimes I want to see more products + when I want to compare products, I browse in the history or use the search bar option.

@rajan_batra3 Are you on mobile or desktop? Because I can see it (I am on desktop)

@rohit11 I feel the pain of not being featured people now. 😭
I actually do. The page is not that long, after all
minimalist phone: creating folders
@alexuphunt Even when there are like 200 launched products?
@busmark_w_nika well, each section only shows the first 6, I think. The home page is quite lightweight in my view. Very easy to get a picture of all that is going on in one scroll

Mostly I try to spend time looking through all the products. Many times, some hidden gems don't make it to top 10, and are hidden because they didn't have proper connections, or didn't start soon enough.

@ansh_deb yeah, but many times are find something useful even in the "non-featured" section.

I look for products that are useful to me in my field and yes the featured products too

@melvy_almeida It seems that it heavily depends on the current state and preferences of the visitor.

@busmark_w_nika yep as a marketer, I'm always on the look out for tools to help me with my workflow.

@pkpio especially, people are too comfortable not to click on other tools and buttons showing up the complete list.
I only engage with what really interests me. When something catches my eye, I open it and take a closer look. I try to show support where it makes sense because I know how hard it is to start, and supporting each other is important. Unfortunately, there are so many new projects on PH that it’s impossible to react to everything. So yes, I mainly focus on the featured ones. When it comes to new launches, having an overview of what’s trending in the top ten is usually enough for me. Maybe more personalization would help. I’d love to see products on the homepage that better match my interests or the areas I focus on. I feel like it would save me time and help me discover projects that truly catch my attention.

@lucie_smejkalova Optional categories would be cool, tho I would be afraid that I would miss other, more crucial things in the tech industry.
@busmark_w_nika That’s true. Finding the right balance will probably be quite difficult for the PH developers. Maybe it would be nice to see the personalized ones and all the others separately.

@lucie_smejkalova Are you a developer/programmer too?
