Week 1 post-launch: what broke, what surprised us, what we shipped

You'd think I'd be ready for launch week chaos. I was not.

Vois launched here on March 5. Here's the honest recap.

The numbers:

  • 99 upvotes, #13 for the day

  • 116 followers

  • 9 comments on the launch post

  • ~50 downloads in Week 1

  • First Product Hunt review received

What broke:

A customer reported that script content disappeared after saving. That's the kind of bug that makes your stomach drop. We diagnosed it, patched it, and shipped v1.0.10 within 2 hours. If you hit this, update and your content should be intact.

What surprised us:

  • A user named Brian found Vois through Gemini AI search, not Google. He wasn't on Product Hunt or Twitter. He asked Gemini about local TTS tools, and Vois showed up in the AI-generated response. He then built a 15-platform comparison spreadsheet before picking us.

  • People mentioned use cases we hadn't prioritized: audiobook narration for self-publishers, accessibility tools for internal company use, prototyping NPC dialogue for indie games.

  • The "runs 100% locally" message landed harder than the voice quality pitch. Privacy resonated more than we expected.

What we shipped (v1.0.10):

  • Fixed the script content loss bug

  • Stability improvements for longer generation sessions

  • Minor UI polish based on early feedback

What's next:

We're heads-down on stability and the rough edges people flagged. No splashy features this week. Just making what exists work better.

Full disclosure: I built Vois. I'm partially dyslexic, which is why the "Listen" feature (text-to-speech for reading, not creating) exists in the app. It started as a tool I needed myself.
