I built Waybz because I kept running into the same problem every time I traveled—or even when I was just trying to pick a café or restaurant. I’d start on Google Maps to check reviews and location, but then I’d always end up switching over to TikTok or Instagram to see what the place actually felt like. Reviews weren’t enough; I wanted the vibe, the crowd, the atmosphere. That constant back-and-forth between apps felt clunky and time-consuming, and it made me wonder why there wasn’t a smoother way to get all of that in one place. So Waybz started as a simple idea: make discovering places feel more natural by connecting maps with short-form videos that show the real experience. As I worked on it, my approach evolved from “I want this for myself” to “I need to understand how other people make decisions, too.” I simplified the product a lot—focusing on browsing, watching relevant videos, saving spots, and easily turning those into an itinerary. It’s still early, but the goal is no longer to replace anything—just to reduce friction in a process many people already do without thinking. Waybz is an experiment to see if this problem is as common as it felt to me, and building it has been a process of cutting out anything extra and focusing on the moments that actually help someone decide where to go.
