I built a free weather site covering 100,000+ cities in 37 languages — here’s what I learned
Hey ProductHunt community 👋
Six days ago I launched WorldDailyWeather.com — a free weather platform I built solo that covers 100,000+ cities worldwide in 37 languages, including tiny villages most weather sites ignore.
A few things I learned building it:
Self-hosting the weather API was a game changer. Instead of paying per-call APIs, I run Open-Meteo in Docker locally. Unlimited forecasts, zero API costs, full control over the data pipeline.
SEO at scale is hard. I’m generating 1.5M+ pages across 37 languages. Getting Google to index them efficiently — without thin content penalties — took months of iteration.
Small cities have huge demand. Some of my highest-traffic pages are for cities with under 50,000 people. No competitor covers them properly.
I’d love feedback on:
What weather data do you actually care about that most sites don’t show?
Would you embed a free weather widget on your site?
Try it for your city: worlddailyweather.com
