@rrhoover You are totally right. We are in the early stages right now of getting some really notable people available as 12vers to address this. Our first efforts are focused on charities and the celebrities that they work with since 12ish could be an amazing and really easy way to raise money for causes. We're also exploring other ways to kick-start this to get over the chicken/egg issue that exists with this kind of idea.
It's a little early to be able to share numbers, but we have had unsolicited people book, pay, and have 12ishes with our users. This was the kind of validation we were hoping to get, and I'm really excited that it happened so early. Now we're working hard to iron out things that confuse our potential customers, clear up our marketing, and build our 12ver base so that we can showcase just what the platform is capable of!
@rrhoover Yeah, that is an excellent point and that's been our number #1 feedback from people. I'm really kicking myself for not noticing sooner that Amazon Payments doesn't allow international payments. We initially chose it because we are so heavy into using Amazon APIs that it made a lot of development sense.
We are actively in development of transitioning to PayPal, but since we just launched we're first working to make sure everything about 12ish delights our customers. Once we get those refinements in, this is will be top priority!
My biggest complaint with Clarity is that their website and apps are terrible to use. I love the idea of giving someone else advice on things I work on every day (and getting a few bucks for it), but I'm hoping 12ish provides better tooling.
Haha - Amazon Payments is killing us. :) We will have that transitioned to PayPal as soon as I can properly caffeinate.
We use Twilio for our phone integration, thanks!
@azilnik Thanks - we'll send out an email about it!
@ffumarola Yeah, I built phone verification from scratch. Same with scheduling. I feel you on that--we wanted to make it as easy as possible and kinda fun, too. Thanks!
@guygal The purpose of getting a few charities is really to seed the platform with recognizable personalities (through the folks the charities work with). The proceeds can then be donated to the charity, giving them in a new, easy, and fun way to raise money.
We're also working on grassroots growth to see what communities best embrace the platform. You bring up a good point about the amount of effort we'll have to go through to get the first charities, but the payoff seems worth it (new avenue for user acquisition, charities that make money should spread the word fast, and the system will complete more calls which will allow us to share success stories sooner).
Just got done with my first 12ish conversation @colinmathews and I have 2 points of feedback:
- call quality was lacking, I could barely understand the other person
- I liked the automatic hangup at 12 minutes in to avoid wasting my time for something they haven't paid for, but in this case the other person was 5 minutes late, and it would have been nice to have the option to extend the call that amount of time (although I don't want to seem like a jerk if I said no to that either lol)
