I'm Gökçe, and this is my first app. I’m the solo developer behind Box Fan Sleep: White Noise.
Here's the backstory: I sleep with a fan every single night. Have for years. But I travel a lot, and I got tired of sleep apps that charge $50-70/year for what should be a simple utility. Most of them use synthesized audio that doesn't sound anything like a real fan. Also every white noise app requires a $60/year subscription, an account, and an internet connection.
So I recorded actual box fans in high fidelity and built an app around them.
A few things I'm proud of:
- The entire app's audio assets are under 2MB, most competitors are 40-80MB
- 7 real fan recordings across brown, pink, and white noise
- You can layer nature sounds (rain, thunder, crickets, ocean) on top
- Sleep timer fades to silence gradually, no jarring cutoff
- $2.99 one-time purchase. No subscription, zero ads, no account. There is a single, one-time unlock for Pro features (like Dark Mode and Nature Overlays).
I built this as an iOS developer learning SwiftUI, and it taught me everything from AVFoundation audio buffering to StoreKit 2 in-app purchases.
