What's great

I provided very logical feedback over five months ago. It was replied to, but nothing at all was implemented. Not even the simplest feature like favoriting folders or using a Custom Prompt when responding with the AI was implemented. Simply nothing. The software is currently unusable as it is.

It creates more work instead. Then I might as well copy texts from ChatGPT into my email program.

What needs improvement

The simplest functions: Favor a simple folder, Custom Prompt for AI response, and a button to respond directly with Co-Pilot.

vs Alternatives

I thought it was logical and had something to do with AI and that they were building feedback, but unfortunately I paid money for it and I would never do it again.

Sven - thank you for the detailed feedback, and I’m sorry you felt ignored after paying. You’re right to expect basic workflow improvements like favoriting folders and a faster “reply with Copilot” action, and it’s fair to call out that we didn’t implement what you asked for within the timeframe you expected. Since then we have shipped major releases like AI Copilot improvements, Inbox Zero workflows, and ongoing stability updates - but that doesn’t help if your specific blockers remain. If you’re open to it, reply here (or DM) with the exact folder-favorite behavior you need and your “custom prompt” use case, and we’ll share the most accurate current status (in progress vs planned vs not currently scheduled). Either way, thanks for pushing us to close the loop better.

Best mail client for macOS, works with Gmail, iCloud and other services. I like this clean interface. Useful AI functions such as finding time references in the content and the ability to set a calendar event by clicking on a word like “tomorrow” in an email.

I found Canary Mail after trying a bunch of alternatives include the Mailbutler extension to Apple Mail that I found recommended a lot on reddit. Canary Mail is the best mail system I've found yet for handling many different email accounts simultaneously and I see myself sticking with it for a while. It's fast and easy to use. I also see them improving the app consistently which is super encouraging. Room for improvement: I wish it were much more customizable, and I wish the AI content generator were more functional - I've never found it to be helpful yet so I ignore it.

You’re also spot on about two gaps: deeper customization and AI output that feels consistently useful (not something you ignore). Since your review we’ve kept iterating with workflow releases like Inbox Zero and reliability updates, and we’re still working to make Copilot more functional in real daily writing. If you can share one example of an AI result you expected but didn’t get (drafting, tone, summary, or reply), it helps us improve the experience.

Canary is one of the best looking Mail client for Mac and iOS around. It is very well integrated an synced among devices. The Pro features are mostly worth it and make it an incredibly complete and desirable product, especially given that they offer a one time purchase alongside the subscription. Overall a great app, the one star is missing for now due to some useful intelligent email sorting that are missing and would make a difference, and some bugs here and there. In spite of this, I totally recommend it!

Alessandro - thank you. Cross-device sync and offering a one-time purchase option are two things we care a lot about, so it’s great they stood out for you. We’ve continued adding workflow improvements since then (Inbox Zero being a big one) and we’re still fixing bugs as we go. Your note about intelligent email sorting is a strong one - if you can share what “smart sorting” means for you (priority inbox, smart folders, auto-labeling, newsletters), it helps us build it in the most useful way.

I was looking for a powerful and modern email client for MacOS & iOS/iPadOS: although I'm still in the trial period for this app, I love very much its clean design, state of the art UI, nice implementation of AI features. Synchro among Apple tools works neatly and moving from AppleMail/AirMail was done smoothly with any loss of data and functionality. I'm going PRO with them and I suggest everybody to have a look at this app.

Canary Mail does a lot of things right that other email apps just don’t, like its seamless design and user interface, and its refreshing customization options. I’ve encountered a couple bugs, and they do that thing where they stick the paid features right there on the home screen to tempt and frustrate you, but it’s better than any other email app I’ve tried so far—which is quite a few!

We’ve shipped several workflow and stability releases since then (including Inbox Zero improvements), but we still have work to do on polish. Also, totally fair feedback on how paid features are surfaced in the UI - we try to balance discovery with not getting in the way, and we can do better. On pricing: we do offer a one-time purchase alongside subscription for people who prefer that model, and we’re continuing to refine how we communicate it without it feeling intrusive.

Canary has got many interesting features most importantly its copilot AI feature. Copilot has helped me write professional emails and summarise reports and articles in a very productive way. From a none native English speaker perspective, Canary helped me improve my organisational skills; something recognised by my friends and colleague at work.

Canary mail, is a excellent email client. It's fast, does exactly what I expect from a client on both the desktop and mobile versions. It's not overly emcumbered with bells and whistles, but has every new feature you would expect from a solid email client. Highly recommend.

Bruce - really appreciate this. We try hard to keep Canary fast and focused while still delivering modern essentials. Over time we’ve added bigger releases like AI Copilot and Inbox Zero workflows, and the goal is to keep adding value without turning the app into a cluttered “feature dump.” If there’s one feature you’d add and one thing you’d never want us to change, we’re listening.

This is the best email I have used and I have tried a bunch of of them. It’s easy to use and it crosses over to all of Apple devices so when I delete from my watch I don’t have to worry on my other devices and that’s huge for me.
