A joke turned real product that gets sued for trademark infringement? It'd be just like Bang With Friends and Zynga, except this time for facial hair.

Impressive that they've managed to get the oil price down that much. The margins with other companies did seem a little bit ridiculous. Is there a list of ingredients somewhere? I think 'no shave November' is starting today for me.
@justinjarman One of the premium beard oil products was on Shark Tank and he mentioned his margins are 80%. It is a bit insane. If you've got a beard, beard oil is inherently something you buy on a regular basis, so for that reason I like the concept of DBC. I've experimented with some cheap oils from Etsy and Amazon. They end up doing weird things to your face and just don't work well. Also smell weird. The premium oils are much better... e.g. http://thebeardbaron.com and http://www.beardbrand.com. From a little research it sounds like they use premium oils and blends. Still, a bottle they make for $6 sells for $30 plus shipping.
@torbahax we look forward to November, and are pretty sure we can do a lot to promote the noble side of the month (charity) more effectively! There is no difference (aside from difference scents) between our products and our competitors. We worked really hard on formulation over the last few months to deliver an amazing portfolio of products. We saw an opportunity to come in and be a loss-leader in the industry and save people some money. I used to spend $20 on beard oil and be almost afraid to use it. Now one can spend $1 and not be afraid to slap it on heavy. We wanted to disrupt the industry a bit!
@alextbrown That video is great and I think this a great product on the other side of the spectrum from Dollar Shave Club. Are you guys currently utilizing any marketing resources to help promote Dollar Beard Club?
@therealkofi a lot of our buzz has come from our pre-campaign list and social media building, and our organic press that we have landed. When we want to build additional momentum we will likely focus on influencer management and CPA based efforts. Thanks!
Very clever video. Positioning against Dollar Shave Club is very smart, you get the idea, and you get what it is about in a fun way. But a little too much objectification of women in the video for me.
@joshdance Thanks for the kind words about the video. Honestly, we definitely did not intend to objectify women by any means, and apologize if it came across that way. Without women, there would be no beards, and thus they deserve the utmost respect!
For comparison, last time I bought an ounce of beard oil it was $28. The stuff smells great and lasts forever with my starter beard, but their pricing is awesomely cheap. I'll be back to join once their website is functioning. "Unknown error..."
@astrism You should really give us a try. We worked hard on formulation to get our stuff looking and feeling great. Our aim with this whole business was to create high quality products that allow our customers to save $20+ on a bottle of oil (for example) and apply it as liberally as they want to!
@evanczhou your skepticism is well warranted... there is far more to launching a stable business than pushing a funny video that goes viral. Fortunately we brought together a team with over 80 years experience in the formulation, supply chain management and logistics involved in the launch of multiple large cosmetic, and over-the-counter pharmaceutical brands internationally. As an entrepreneur, you know as well as I do that the challenges are where all the fun and excitement lies :)
