Tired of waiting for OpenAI to roll out revenue share? Add the GPT Builder Tools action to your GPT to to accept payments directly from your users in the OpenAI Store - choose donation, subscription or lifetime access.
@devtoolstonic these are apps built by third party developers in the OpenAI ecosystem. They currently don't get paid at all. Many of them have built these apps out of interest, curiosity and the promise of revenue share from OpenAI (which has yet to eventuate) for almost a year, we don't think it's particularly wild for developers to eventually want to get paid for their work, to connect their apps to paid APIs if that delivers more value, and to maintain these apps to a high standard. And it's user pays model, if users don't see value in a particular GPT, they won't pay! I also want to be clear, we believe this should be in addition to OpenAI's revenue share. Not instead of.

Hey Jeevika, interesting product to be honest but wondering how safe it is to handle transactions this way, have you thought about integrating more payment options or even a tier system for different user levels? also, what about privacy concerns with chat summaries, feels like a grey area, curious to hear your thoughts
@curiowriter user trust is paramount. our product is what OpenAI calls an 'action', and every time a GPT uses an action, the user is informed and has to give permission (like how users have can accept or block cookies). With OpenAI, they see more granular info including the specific words that would be sent. obviously, if they do not give permission, then we do not receive any info from the user. the purpose is to help developers understand the user journey and optimise the user experience, otherwise it very much dealing with a black box with gen AI.
as for payments, we use stripe because it is a safe and robust platform, and a lot of the information is stored at our database level and pulled in via API (rather than stored with the GPT which is much more prone to prompt hacking), it's also why we seperated out incoming payments (via Stripe) and outgoing payouts to builders (via PayPal) to have that additional layer of security.
we would love to offer more payment options through - do you have any recommendations in particular? and could you elaborate about tier system for different users? haven't hear about that yet, sounds like it could be interesting though!

Interesting take on monetizing GPTs Jeevika, sounds like a way for AI builders to finally get some payback for their work but isn't there a risk that this just creates more paywalls for users, I'm curious how you're planning to handle any backlash from people who are used to getting these tools for free especially as reliance on premium apps might grow⏤what's the plan to keep a balance?
@chiefops25 hey paul, yeah this is the multibillion dollar question for gen AI more broadly! we're so used to the internet being free, but generative AI is expensive to run on a unit basis, and so the pricing really has to evolve to support the cost. partly developers need to be more selective about what you ask a LLM to keep costs under control, but that only goes so far. Eventually the user will have to pay to support the additional cost... it could be that people just pay for a baseline AI subscription (for ChatGPT Plus, or equivalent) and get access to apps for free (like another netflix subscription) or they pay for apps they want directly. Let's see how it evolves! It's early days!

Found this tool through an ad, gotta say, I'm skeptical about paying for something that OpenAI might just offer later for free, also, relying on PayPal feels outdated
The no-coding part is cool but I wonder how secure it really is
Have you thought about adding more payment options like Venmo or direct bank transfers?

Making money with GPTs sounds cool, but it feels like yet another way to squeeze cash out of users, no coding needed is great but will it really provide value or just clutter the marketplace with more paywalls, I'm skeptical, interested to see how this plays out though
@mirodev2023 hey, if the Apple App Store is anything to go by, 95% of GPT apps will be free, and only the top 5% will be paid. If an app is a thin wrapper of ChatGPT, it's not going to do well so it will be hard to keep justify the price point. While it is not required to code to built a custom GPT (or to install our product), coding is still a very useful skill set for a successful builder to be able to add custom actions to pull in information or perform tasks outside of the OpenAI ecosystem which is how you can deliver great value to users beyond what they can do with just ChatGPT!

Congrats on the launch, this looks like something we could use immediately.
@cloudolive awesome! definitely check it out, we're offering a promo code so you can try our Pro plan (which has the monetisation features) for free this month. if you want to discuss or have any issues, feel free to drop me an email (jeevika@toproad.ai)!

Congratulations jeevika!!!
This video is absolutely amazing! The packaging is so creative and the message is so well delivered. I really appreciate the effort and detail that went into every element of this video.
