I’ve tested, tried, used, and customized many productivity and note-taking apps. By pure chance, I came across the Journalit app on AppSumo, took a closer look at it, and bought 10 codes during a sale.

After a few days, I realized that I’m thrilled by the many possibilities it offers. When I say “many possibilities,” that naturally also means a corresponding learning curve—one that ultimately pays off because the app can be used in such a versatile and flexible way.

So far, I can only say: Hats off to this software, to this feat of digital technology and usability. I think I’ll use it every day and with great enthusiasm.

I think I’ll use it more often than my previous note-taking apps like Obsidian or Notion.

What needs improvement

When asked what improvements I’d like to see now, the first thing that comes to mind is this: Beyond the Apple ecosystem, a Windows app version or a Linux app version would be desirable, so that users could install it on their own devices by default without having to set up favorites all over again.

I also miss the advanced features of browsers—whether Google, Firefox, or Edge—as well as their limited or inadequate security features. These would still be missing in standalone applications, i.e., on Linux and Windows.

Otherwise, I’m already almost 100% satisfied with what Journalit offers me.

vs Alternatives

When asked why I prefer this over TickTick or Todoist—two very well-known and widely used to-do or habit-tracking apps—I have to say that I tend to use Journalit 90% of the time or more. Simply because it’s much more flexible. It’s too flexible for many people, but flexible enough for me.

This means you can use it in different organizations—a feature that lets you define areas of life or work, either keeping them loosely defined or making them flexible and granular.

Examples:

- Organization “Car”: Order spare parts, enter notes about spare parts, including when and where they were ordered and how often.

- “Dog” organization: Walking the dog—a simple task where you can also enter granular details.

In this way, Journalit offers both fewer and more options and flexibility, depending on your needs. The beauty of it is that I can customize it exactly the way I want.
