@KateKendall@ryanhoover Indeed you did! I'll definitely be more active going forward. FWIW the AirBNB for families tagline was what I expected (I visited the site before reading through the comments).
@editorialpinch, it's awesome to hear that you're thinking about these things. That's great that you have such a vibrant community already. I think the ambassadors idea works well, but you are also putting a lot of trust in your community (which has pros and cons).
I have some ideas for how to streamline the process - but can't validate how effective they might be. Normally, I'd send this stuff via e-mail, but I think it would be cool to see other people's feedback/ideas.
1) In my experience with Airbnb, I typically steer away from those who don't have any reviews. To streamline this while also ensuring reviews on every property - I would encourage the seller to reduce their rates for their first stay. Additionally, perhaps from your standpoint, you could reduce your service charges. I imagine the biggest hurdle for startups in your space would be getting the first "renter" of a property. Once a property has a lot of reviews, it's much easier to pitch.
2) Application process. In order to list your home, you have to apply. People like exclusivity. It might be hard to scale, but I think there are definitely ways to scale this effectively. For example, ask them to tag their pictures (meaning put notecard with their username and date in the picture). Obviously, this isn't full proof, but it would encourage scammers to tread more carefully.
3) Ask for recommendations/testimonials to vouch for the home owner. This could be a way to get over that first review hurdle. (Still not full proof) As you scale, it would be harder to follow up/validate the recommendations; however, I think that you could solve that issue by "randomly" verifying the recommendations.
