Woah. This is VERY interesting. Especially since it's specifically for Messenger? - "M can actually complete tasks on your behalf. It can purchase items, get gifts delivered to your loved ones, book restaurants, travel arrangements, appointments and way more."
Wow this looks pretty impressive, along with all the other cool new things being released into Messenger. One concern as a developer is where do you draw the line between offering a platform for devs vs. building features yourself? Facebook doesn't have the best history of walking this line, so just wondering how you think about that.

Very cool, just wondering where the recommendations are pulled from? Are they from places like yelp and google reviews? If data is pulled from places where people have left reviews and ratings how valid is their judgement?
What areas does this service work for?
Nice! Human+machine services are really interesting. I'm excited to see where this technology can go and how it can help simplify certain tasks. I'd love to know more about how the human aspect of M and how the human supervision will work?
Great to see Facebook getting into this space :) However it will be interesting to see whether people will be comfortable using an assistant inside Facebook Messenger (which may feel too personal and intrusive as it sits beside people's intimate, private chats) as compared to a standalone app like with our app Dispatch. Either way can't wait to try it out.
@syedaliahmed Interesting thought. Any specific use cases you've seen where people might experience a virtual assistant intrusive or think of it invading their privacy?
@pieterpaul I think that this works for eastern apps like Wechat because their users have always seen it as a social network (where you can play games, chat, download stuff, share posts/updates, and now order food, shop etc.) whereas with western messaging apps (FB Messenger, Whatsapp) they have always been seen as a private intimate space for chats with family and friends. Shopping/chatting with businesses in that space could be very intrusive for many people I would guess. I would prefer a standalone experience.
