Great question! We designed our AI roles by abstracting real-world professional positions and their standard operating procedures (SOPs). Just like in actual companies, each role has specific skills and responsibilities that reflect how teams collaborate in the real world.
For example, Davie (our data analyst) follows data analysis SOPs similar to human analysts - from data cleaning to visualization, while Alex handles development tasks following software engineering best practices. This approach makes the collaboration natural and efficient, as it mirrors real-world workflows.
We're constantly refining these roles based on industry standards and user feedback to make the experience even more practical and effective! 🚀

A clear responsibility scope that defines what the agent should focus on
A set of domain-specific skills encoded as executable actions
Standard operating procedures (SOPs) that guide workflow and decision-making
Specific tools and APIs the role can access to perform its functions
Our approach allows each agent to specialize while maintaining the ability to collaborate through standardized communication protocols. This structure enables both depth in individual expertise and cohesion in team workflows.
The forthcoming papers on Foundation Agents and our MetaGPT 1.0 technical report will provide much more detail on our methodology. We're excited to share these insights with the community soon.
