Love this idea, especially the focus on texting. How do you keep parents motivated over time? What are some examples of personalization you've done for particular users?
@erictliu Thanks! Great question.
On keeping folks motivated -- our coaches are trained to help members develop habits (using a framework similar to Atomic Habits or The Power of Habit) -- to successfully create or replace a habit, you need a trigger, the routine (in our case, the workout or eating well), and a reward. At first, the coach's SMS prompts serve as the trigger, but over time we help members establish their own triggers in their environment (post it notes around the house, associating a workout with finishing a specific meal). Similarly, the coach is at first the reward (insight on your meals, shoutouts in your support group) but members learn to embrace other intrinsic rewards like the great feeling of accomplishment you have at the end of a well balanced day.
On personalization -- a great example of this is our personalized grocery list. In the first week of the program, we ask members about what foods they already like to eat, what restrictions they have, etc. Then we combine those with our internal database to generate a shopping list that highlights healthy foods that they already enjoy, as well as foods we'd like them to eat in moderation. The member then receives a hard copy of this list to pin to their refrigerator!

This looks super cool during this pandemic days. Is it just for elderly or younger people would benefit from it as well? Thanks for worrying about people's health and well being!
@neotk Younger folks would benefit as well, but there are certainly tons of great fitness/wellness apps to choose from for millennials! But we've tried to focus on folks over 50 as much as possible, since they've generally been underserved. We've incorporated tiny UX considerations wherever we can, such as adapting with the phone's text size settings and increasing the size of touch targets.

This great. Good as it is focused on older folks. Congratulations on your launch.
The app isn't available in my country yet. Is it possible I get the APK?
It's so awesome that your team is building something for our parents' generation—very much needed. I'd love to get this for my mom but she's not the most fluent in English, wondering what languages you're currently offering?
@amber_chen1 We're currently offering our app and coaching in English only, but we hope to expand to other languages in the near future! We know a lot of folks have immigrant parents (like mine) who would prefer to engage in another language, and we want to make Mighty as accessible as possible.

Accountability and motivation for healthier living is something I've been looking for my parents, this so timely! Curious what topics you guys cover in the app?
@jane_tseng That's a great question! In addition to our workout videos and nutrition plan, we have interactive lessons in the app around decreasing risk of heart disease, decreasing work stress, improving sleep, losing weight, and more. Ideally we'd like to be able to provide lots of programs specific to the goals of each member!

What a lovely and thoughtful gift for Father’s Day. I’d love to get this for my dad — he’d definitely benefit from the joint friendly exercises and nutrition plan. For nutrition, how is it customized to specific diets esp culturally?
@tracy_tseng Good question. When a member first enters the app, we ask them to tell us what ingredients they like to eat -- i.e. veggies, meats, fruits, sweets, etc. -- as well as what dietary restrictions they may have. We combine that with our recommended plan to create a personalized grocery list they can take to the supermarket or pin on their refrigerator. We've found that starting with ingredients that they're already familiar with instead of assigning prescriptive recipes fits better with their diets, especially from a cultural perspective.

Building healthy lifestyle habits are so so important. Does the app have anything for stress and msntal health?Grateful that your team is building something like this for our parents. Really appreciatet the human element, it's such a personal touch. Congrats!
@debdeb Yes! Especially important in times like these. We have interactive lessons around dealing with stress at work and during COVID, as well as improving sleep. We're always working on adding more though, if you have any suggestions. Thanks for the question!
