Despite the plethora of tools available, nothing seemed to break free from decades-old norms, even though video as a capsule for storytelling has evolved so much. We craved a more intuitive way to edit videos. 🎥✨Moonshine is a browser-based, story-powered, video-making machine. One of the first things you’ll notice is that the timeline is vertical! This enables more intuitive text-based video interactions directly on the timeline. Right now, text helps you quickly find the relevant clips from your uploads, based on visuals, actions, and dialogue. Start a story with a phrase like “Ordering pizza with my friends” and we’ll automatically show the exact clips you're looking for. 🎬🔍 Need a shot from a different angle? Or want more footage of your friend? Just tap on a moment in your timeline, and visually similar clips from your library will be magically highlighted for you to add. And to elevate your story, transitions, text, and audio layers work exactly how you’d expect! Moonshine removes the technicality of editing and puts your storyline front and center. Website says "Data is never accessed by a 3rd party". did you guys build your own video search models then?

@jason_barrett Yes! We built and host all the models used in our editor. The two main reasons we did this is (1) Privacy, we don't want to share your data with anyone (2) Speed, our models are up to 2x faster than other video indexing services out there We'll be posting on Hacker News with more detailed nuance on the core tech behind the Moonshine editor!

Wow, super challenging product area to take on. Your concepts related to editing UI are refreshing. I am looking forward to trying it! Similar to your app, Ableton Live also has a vertical timeline concept in their "Session View" which is contrasted with their "Arrangement View" -- you could look at that for inspiration.

Cool stuff (: In the spirit of the times - are you planning on adding genAI editing capabilities? It would feel all the more natural to keep using text prompts to not only find but also edit videos.

This is super cool. These are the biggest steps I've seen in video editing since the mid-2000s, I love the UI shake-up. Great work on this, I can't wait to see where this goes!
