Raycast has become a go-to macOS command palette for fast app launching, extension-driven workflows, and an increasingly “all-in-one” productivity layer. But the alternatives landscape is surprisingly diverse: Alfred doubles down on a mature, community-powered workflow automation engine and a one-time pricing mindset, while ExtraBar reimagines quick actions as a menu-bar command center built around deep links. Radial takes the opposite interaction model—gesture-first, cursor-centered, and context-aware per app—whereas WorkspacePro focuses narrowly on restoring entire app-and-window “sessions,” and PaletteBrain targets a single job: reusable AI templates available in any app.
In evaluating options, we looked at interaction style (keyboard palette vs menu bar vs gesture), automation depth and customization, ecosystem/discoverability, and how quickly you can get value without heavy setup. We also considered pricing approach (subscription vs one-time), AI flexibility and “BYO key” paths, and product maturity signals like reliability, community support, and ongoing iteration.
