We're getting ready to ship Still 1.1.6, and this update makes the app feel much more private, calm, and complete.
What's new in this version:
A new privacy toggle in History to hide messages and blur images, so past entries are not visible at a glance
Google Drive backup and restore, so Pro users can keep a safe copy of their journal
Gentle starter prompts to make it easier to begin writing when you don't know where to start
New empty states across the app to make the experience feel clearer and more thoughtful
More polish in Light Mode and premium flows
Still is a private space to write what you can't always say out loud, and this update pushes that idea further.

@nickdroid I've been wanting something exactly like this — installed it right away.
I love the idea of setting the mood with colors; it's a really nice touch. Also, being able to secure the app with its own passcode (separate from the device lock) feels thoughtful and reassuring.
Rooting for you — excited to keep using Still!

@toyamarinyon Thanks!! Reading this really means a lot.
Really really happy to have you using Still. Thanks for the support 🤍

Quick question about Still — the product feels intentionally quiet in a space that usually rewards constant signals and visible activity.
From a design perspective, what led you to prioritize calm and presence over more traditional productivity cues? Was there a particular user insight or experience that shaped that decision?
Asking because that restraint comes through clearly in the first impression.

@rexlian The calm is intentional, and it came from a very personal problem I kept running into.
A lot of my reflection happens late at night (overthinking, replaying a bad experience, or trying to unload thoughts before sleeping). I've learned that thinking out loud works best when there's no sense of evaluation behind it.
From a design perspective, growth means improving reliability, depth, and optionality without increasing pressure. The experience shouldn't change just because more people are using it.
Before Still, I used chats with myself on WhatsApp or Telegram saved messages. But those spaces are noisy and transactional — they're built for files, links, not for being mentally exposed.
Still was designed as a private space that belongs to you. That's why it avoids trackers almost entirely. The only signal is a very minimal streak that starts once you interact and quietly accumulates. It's not there to push behavior, just to acknowledge presence.
Installed! I've been searching for a place to organize my thoughts and just love the conversation that I can talk to myself. With color differentiation and the section, it is not that overwhelming to review what I wrote. Thanks again for the peaceful design.

@dubd59 Thanks Darrell!! This means a lot for me! Let me know if you have some feedback regarding the app and what'd you like to see in the next version!
Congrats on the launch, the positioning around slowing down and creating mental space really resonates. I like how minimal the concept feels, especially for people overwhelmed by noisy, feature-heavy journaling apps. “A private space to think and write” is simple, but that’s exactly the value here. Curious how you’re thinking about long-term habit formation without adding pressure or gamification.

@vik_sh Fair point, and honestly, it's the hardest tension in the product.
I do want Still to be used regularly, but I'm trying to avoid turning reflection into a task people feel they can fail at.
I have an idea on how to approach this without adding pressure, and I'll be iterating on it in the next version.
Thanks for your comment! 🙏
If the notes are stored entirely locally, I'd be quite interested in trying it out.
Still
@hazyram Hi Jason! Yes! all notes are stored entirely on your device.
Nothing is uploaded, synced, or sent to any server.
Privacy and local-first storage are core to how the app works.
