I’ve spent a decade searching for the note-taking tool that would let me think instead of organize. I’m talking Evernote, Roam, Notion, Obsidian - the full pilgrimage. When nothing fit, I did what any systems-obsessed founder would do: I vibe-coded my own Frankenmonster out of Airtable, n8n workflows, and a React Native app. I was spending more time on “work about the work” - filing, maintaining, debugging - than on the actual ideas I was supposedly capturing. The tool became the project.

Tana broke that cycle. The supertag system means I capture ideas without deciding upfront where they “go” - they just become what they are (a task, a person, a project) and surface where I need them. Live searches pull context to me instead of me hunting for it. I’m not maintaining a system anymore; I’m working inside one that maintains itself. For the first time in years, my note-taking tool is invisible in the best way - it gets out of my way so I can actually think.

If you’re someone who’s tried everything, built your own hacky solutions, and still feels like you’re pushing a boulder uphill just to organize your brain - Tana is worth the learning curve. It’s not simple. But it’s the right kind of complex: powerful primitives that compound, not features that bloat.

What the team at Tana has built is nothing short of revolutionary. As someone who has extensively experimented with virtually every personal knowledge management tool on the market - from Evernote to Capacities to Logseq to Roam Research, Tana stands in a league of its own. It's the only system I know of that has the ability to comfortably house any type of information I want to store. Prior to discovering Tana, my experience with PKM tools was consistently frustrating and felt constraining. I ended up with notes across dozens of tools, creating a hard to retrieve entangled mess of information that was absolutely crippling to my productivity.. Tana is the first tool that truly adapts to how my brain works, rather than forcing me to adapt to it. Its insane flexibility combined with its structured approach has allowed me to finally take control of my thought processes and knowledge management in a way that is hard to describe without experiencing it. And I have truly only scratched the surface of its incredible capabilities. While traditional note-taking apps are more like building an enterprise applications with just HTML, Tana enables you to actually "code" your thinking process through its ability to build compound structures, create reusable thought patterns, and link ideas programmatically – all while scaling with complexity. Its similar to how MacOS serves as the operating system while Python is used to program it. It's a transformative paradigm shift because once you learn to "code" your thoughts using Tana's framework, you will unlock entirely new ways of thinking that weren't previously possible with conventional note-taking methods. If other PKM tools are like standard vehicles, Tana is a Ferrari: precision-engineered, high-performance, and designed for those who demand the absolute best!!

Tana is a fantastic space to create a knowledge graph in the way that makes most sense for you. The only caveat is the learning curve and some missing QoL features.

Lack of Rest API is a huge bummer alongside some other QoL features like notifications, integrated task management, and general UI quirks.

vs Alternatives

Tana is the only product that delivers on: using node objects for object-oriented knowledge graph, custom commands with node buttons, somewhat of an automation experience, usable mobile experience.

Mobile apps could be much better. As user there is always the switch between the web-app in the mobile browser and the native app with limited functions.

There are so many note-talking apps. This the one with a totally different philosophy and execution. Runs at the speed of your thought. It can be whatever you want it to be, from a digital bullet journal to a fully fledged AI workflow app. So hard to explain, so intuitive to use.

Tana is the one productivity tool I was looking for for a really long time. We're using it daily with my associate, and it helps us working together with our own favorite way of thinking : He prefer tree-view, I prefer visual one inside nodes. He likes to put everything in daily, I prefer to create my own views. Hard to collaborate when you look at existing productivity tools. That's before we'd discovered Tana, where we can work together with our productivity differences without being frustrated. A really smart solution. Thanks a lot for this and keep up the good work! 🚀

Incredibly powerful! The ONE product that adapts to how I think and work! Capture ideas from anywhere AND resurface anything where ever you'll need it (without having to build that structure first). The beauty is: you can just start on a blank page every day and let the structure follow or adapt however you need it to work for you. I have a rule when testing new software: never get too attached.
