Hi Everyone, Ryan Hanly here, co-founder of Travello - a social network for travellers. Travello is the easiest and most efficient way to connect with travellers in a current or future destination. One of the best things about travelling is meeting people - and we figured there had to be a better way. So we made it! Travello really solves a key paint point for travellers ie How do I meet new travellers in a new destination? Within seconds of downloading the app you can connect with travellers around you or add your travel plans and connect with travellers heading to the same destination as you! There's a range of ways to interact on the app from direct messaging, interacting on the Noticeboard or creating/joining traveller made meetups. @illya_bakurov @ryanhanly I played with the app early on, and just downloaded it again after seeing this post (which I see is a couple months old now). Connecting travelers is a space I've thought a lot about, and built two apps to attempt to solve. Upon login, you have a decent number of people in Seattle where I live, where are travelers finding this? Who are these people? What's the common reason they are all showing up? Should I message them about dating? Meeting up? Travel advice? Their past travels? Going on a tour? What's the noticeboard? Why wouldn't I go post a discussion thread in a fb group I already belong to, and where I know tons of people (who I'm connected to) will see it? I believe you need a strong "why" to set context. The difficulty you're gonna have here is getting enough people to join your social network so that it's not a ghost town (been there, done that). So, what's your plan to get people interested in using this and not, oh say, facebook?

@mrabramowitz Great question Corey and one that was discussed at length internally before we entered into this. I'll answer the competitor part first. We really focussed hard on producing a platonic platform for travellers - we're not the Tinder for travellers and don't intend on being so. For example, you and I would find it difficult or at the very least awkward connecting on Tinder, but if we connected on Travello that awkwardness does not exist. Facebook really focusses on connecting your current network - people you already know - but Travello fills a 'pre-Facebook' niche, ie meeting new people, in a new destination that are outside your current network. You already know everyone on FB and the chances of them being in Bangkok when you arrive are unlikely. Most of our users would continue their relationship on FB once they have met on Travello and we are fine with that - because Travello comes back into play in the next destination they arrive in.

@mrabramowitz In regards to filling the community - the answer is regional focus. We are focussing on some key regions where we can attain the density of connections through huge bulges in traveller traffic and we understand that in the early days that will be at the expense of some other regions, but we are finding that Travellers are organically taking Travello around the world and we are seeing activity in regions that we had no intention of targeting. We understand that having a thin user-base across a range of countries really won't lead to long term success.

What are your plans for building a community there? At the moment Couchsurfing is the leading app between the travel community and they have now ways to look for other travellers around you as well.

@cataplines Great question Pablo and the answer is really looking at the core focus of the product. Couchsurfing's core focus is finding places to stay in a new location and as a result connecting with locals - and they do that exceptionally well. Travello's core focus is connecting and meeting other travellers in a new location and that's really the key difference. 90% of our users are either currently travelling or planning to travel. Couchsurfing is a much more even split between travellers and locals. So we think Couchsurfing will always do what they do better than us - but we think we can do the traveller (only) community better than them!

Few things I've noticed right off the bat The font for the walk through is horrible - really hard to read (iPhone 7) The white text over the photo of people around me - again, hard to read In the USA, we use miles, not kilometers - a bit of location specific calculations would be nice. Could of used this, this weekend while in Chicago, lol... Next time.

Just as a pure fact, Travello in french is a slang to design someone as a travesti or transexual. I guess in english it sounds great !
