The app is actually pretty good. It sort of fulfils a very specific use case. Chatting with a close personal friend or between a boy friend and a girl friend or if ya chatting with a family member may be. For instance, me and my girlfriend message each other quite often but hardly call each another because, come on, Do I really have to explain? :-P This feels more personal and actually pretty fun. But like a lot of others said, sign up process could be better. I am eager to see how this product is going to evolve and also anticipating a couple of more apps which is gonna do pretty much the same. But as of now, job well done:)
Not a bad app. Shame you have to create a Yahoo ID to use it and not just your own email, I never use my Yahoo email. I can't help but also feel that it would have been better to just call it 'Livetext' and drop the 'Yahoo' from the name and especially the icon.
@de i don't think the ID that you create on LiveText is a Yahoo ID. There's no confirmation and the namespace is local to LiveText. It's just an ID to make adding people easier.

I don't get this. But then I don't get 95% of these types of things, because I'm a dinosaur. How many different ways does one need to show their / see their friends faces while communicating?

I'm excited to see this out and live. Have watched this quickly evolve from an idea to a product and nice to see this widely released. Congrats to the @yahoo team working on this.
Was talking to @marshal about this earlier today. This seems like a sweet spot between full on video and texting. Not as awkward as full video, but you still get a good sense of the person on the other end. I could see something like this being integrated into a dating app.

I downloaded and started using it this morning. It's great. Hope it catches on. I don't think it's like Snapchat really, but I guess anything that disappears will get that comparison. It will be harder for the internet "famous" to make a buck on it, or for Brands at this point since it seems to only work one-to-one.

I can totally see how this will take off on college and high school campuses, or at a loud party or event. I'm definitely not in this target demo, but I found this quite useful to check in with my wife and see our newborn baby while I'm at the office!
